Everything Ferris saw unfold between the artist and Mikey, he took and filed in "Weird Shit Seen In Sweetwater Woods" to deal with later.
He wasn't surprised his shots didn't do anything but at least Mikey was okay. While the hound shredded his boot, Ferris put away his gun and circled slightly to put himself between the two distant men and the beast.
"Hey, good girl. Maybe we try this again, eh?" He had limited experience with wild animals, but he was hoping by backing away slowly, the beast would keep its stalking pace. He wasn't going to outrun it if it came to that. He kept an eye out for a climb-able tree or some other obstacle as he kept backing up slowly. "We can be friends, yeah? You like fire, I like fire. I like dogs...you're...kinda like a dog. You want a snack?" He pat down his jacket and pulled out an old packaged granola bar and held it up and tore open an end before tossing it to the side a bit.
As if he might sweet talk the beast into a belly rub. Which was one way to neutralize a supernatural threat.
The Adrenaline of fight or flight faded slightly from Mikey's eyes as he realized belatedly what had happened. He had known that Giacomo Ettore 's abilities were greater than humans but it was the first time he had really seen them. It would have been hot if he hadn’t nearly just been dog chow. It was with a gratefulness that he realized the vampire had been genuinely worried. Because while he had assumed that the vampire would look out for him, he hadn’t thought Giacomo would actually go out of his way or risk getting chomped on himself. After all there were other....blood donors... to replace him in Gia's life if something went wrong, or so he had thought.
He reached up to place his hands over Gia's “I'm ok. Just some scratches.” He replied with as reassuring a tone as he could manage. Honestly the camera had taken more of a beating than he had. It was scuffed to hell and the lense would have to replaced but it seemed like he would still be able to retrieve the photos he accidentally risked his life for. If this were a movie he would have leaned in for a kiss before dashing off into the night with his pale hero. Alas it wasn't and there was still a beast not so far away.
He gently nudged himself free of Giacomo's grasp to look back the way they had come. In the darkness he could still make out the light of the burning hound ….and also Ferris. That's right he had heard gun shots. That must have been Ferris Felwinter . It must have been that stubborn sense of responsibility again. “Oh no…why isn't he running away?” Mikey blurted out under his breath. Ferris had struck him as the tortured type but purposely standing still to get mauled didn’t seem like his style of self harm. Even so there wasn't much he could do to return Ferris’ act of heroism. He had just been in its jaws a moment ago. He couldn't be so selfish as to negate Gia's hard work and put himself back in danger. He also couldn't ask Gia to fight that thing if it could actually hurt a vampire. He watched the man and the hound anxiously for a second then turned back to Giacomo with that same anxious look. Big brown eyes full of worry and conflicted emotions. Maybe they could just distract it long enough for Ferris to get away? “Do you know what those things are?”

Giacomo had never been very good at expressing his feelings with words, it was much easier in an artist form but that didn't always help him. In his head he had made it very clear that he genuinely cared about Mikey Royce, that he felt attached to the man for more than just his blood, but none of that had ever actually left his lips. Mikey's hands on top of his, reassuring him that he was alright, was reassuring and the urgency in Gia's eyes faded to a more mild concern.
But it was but a moment. They were still dealing with a very dangerous situation. He followed Mikey's gaze to see Ferris being stalked by one of the creatures. The fact that he currently couldn't see the other at all was concerning. "I think they're hellhounds. I've never come across in person but I've heard stories. From what I know, they can only be killed by their fire being put out with water or being pierced in the heart or brain with something that can withstand the heat. Like tungsten or titanium."
Giacomo was not typically the hero type. He was out only for himself and the people he cared about. The only person here he cared about was Mikey. His preference would be to scoop Mikey up and just disappear but he had a feeling that it wouldn't do him any favors with the human and especially now that Annika was gone...he was even less willing to risk losing his only meaningful connection.
"You want to stay and help, don't you?" he said with a bit of a groaning tone and began to look around for a way to use the water in the creek to their advantage.
Seeing the hound release Price Vanderson was a relief, and Darcy didn’t hesitate to keep her momentum running toward the young man, thankful the hound ran off after Harland and didn’t bother with her or the Sheriff Waylon Sanders . “Waylon, call the hospital, let them know we’re bringing in a Vanderson for emergency medical treatment.” Without wasting another breath Darcy dropped her pack from her shoulders and removed the first aid kit, ripping open a pack for a tourniquet. She had to stop the blood loss to give him his best chance of-
Darcy’s heart felt like it was beating in slow motion for a moment as she felt an overwhelming sense of alarm… of panic. What the hell was that?
Ferris
She could feel it in every fiber of her being. He was in danger. Every inch of her body screamed for her to go find him, and she nearly automatically stood up… but the pieces to the tourniquet in her hands reminded her she had to help the Vanderson kid first. Darcy had no doubt in her mind that if her wolf could separate from her in this moment; she would have been gone. But she couldn’t. Instead she took steadying breaths and set the tourniquet on his leg above the wound, relieved when the blood loss was no longer so extensive.
Darcy was suddenly glad she had never been too squeamish, because this job wouldn’t have been her first pick by any means. She looked around frantically for a moment, jumping up and grabbing two large branches to use to brace his leg for transport. She felt like an exposed nerve, everything in her screaming to ensure the safety of the one she loved.
The one she loved.
Because she did. She loved that sarcastic, workaholic, troubled soul of a man. Even if she couldn’t admit it out loud yet. Every sound and scent; louder and sharper… she wanted to throw up. But she returned to Price’s leg and began doing her best to brace it so she and Waylon could get him to safety.
Harland as soon as he hit the tree line he was shifting into his wolf form, ripping his jacket and shirt off. Branches whipped and snapped against his large frame and when he finally reached his werewolf form smaller trees were shoved over with the frame of his wolf size (he was already fairly large in this form but Harland was a slightly bigger built werewolf too). He'd run these woods for so long he felt he could dart and dash between trees confusing that monsters senses long enough for Harland to get a surprise advantage over it.

Waylon cursed when Harland and Ferris dashed off, damn heroes, however he quickly radioed emergency services as Darcy requested. He stood over her as she worked on the Vanderson boys leg but she seemed like she was somewhere else with worry. Holstering his service weapon Waylon squatted beside her and kindly took over, "I'll finish Darc, go after Ferris I'll get Price out of here and come back for Harland...dammit where are the other two? That one feller was fast..he went after Mikey fast..I...go..go..I got this.."
By the time Darcy Vance reached Price Vanderson he had already passed out from the pain. She worked on his leg and would successfully keep the situation from getting worse for the Vanderson boy as Waylon Sanders took her place.
The hellhound sped after Harland Shaw in his wolf form and while not from these woods exactly, it was clear this was its natural habitat and Harland's familiarity only gave him the smallest advantage of speed, pulling further ahead of the hound but it was the appearance of a buck who had spotted the pair and started running away that gave Harland the advantage he'd need to have the hound distracted enough to catch it by surprise.
Mikey Royce and Giacomo Ettore stood safely by the creek while Ferris Felwinter faced off with the other hellhound. The monster growled as it stalked towards Ferris, it's teeth bared and magma dripping from it's fangs instead of saliva. It watched as the granola bar was tossed and hesitated for a moment before curiosity got the better of it and it moved to investigate, giving Ferris an advantage in it's lack of attention. It wouldn't last too long though as it would soon sniff the contents and immediately decide it wasn't worth it's time, turning it's focus back to Ferris after about 15 seconds.
- Success of Ferris and Harland's efforts determined by coin flip, both successful on the part of the character. - Price is unconscious and can be skipped until further notice. - No post order.
While ensuring one last time that Price was in fact breathing and had a pulse, though it was weak, Darcy slid over to let Waylon take her spot. She could have hugged him for giving her the go-ahead to pursue Ferris. Was she that obvious? “I saw that, maybe it was something like those adrenaline rushes that let mothers lift vehicles off their kids or something…. It’s been a crazy day.” She knew the other man was a vampire, so his speed didn’t surprise her, but she wasn’t about to discuss those details with the sheriff. She gave a gentle pat to his shoulder, then pushed herself up and headed in the last direction she had seen Ferris.
Though she didn’t need to rely on anything but her sense of smell to know she was headed in the right direction. Though not just because she could smell Ferris. No, she could also smell the hound he was facing up again.
Shit.
Everything in her told her to shift, to turn into her wolf form and get to him as quickly as possible. But she couldn’t. Not without exposing herself as a werewolf to yet another human. The vampire she knew could tell she was a wolf just from her sent, but that didn’t mean she was about to have a repeat of the situation with the bear. And Harland. He was already wolfed out and trying to get the upper hand on the second hound.
At least Waylon was getting help for Price, there were two less people to worry about. Giacomo and Mikey were still around, but not presently in danger. And Ferris. Darcy’s breath caught in her chest as she spotted him. If they survived this, she just might strangle him herself. Why in the hell was this man trying to sweet talk some fiery beast?! She dared not move, for fear of the beast deciding to lunge at Ferris. There was no way she’d reach him before that hound got ahold of him. So… she froze.
He knew that it was a lot to ask of Giacomo Ettore but running off now would mean leaving Ferris behind. Mikey nodded taking in the information about the nature of the hounds. Given that information it was ironic that their chief fire fighter was the one in need of rescue. He would have been better off bringing a fire extinguisher than a gun to this fight. "That guy, He's ....sort of a friend of mine." He was also sort of more than a friend. It wasn't like Mikey was some grand hero that wanted to make sure all the towns folk were safe. Not that he wanted to see anyone get hurt either. What they really needed was to buy some time for Ferris to make a dash. To his shegrin the new head ranger joined them from the other group. That made for two people that needed to get away now. Not knowing she too was supernatural he only saw another person who might stand there trying to shoot it in vain. Then he caught Giacomo looking at the creek and an idea sprang forth. He immediately started pulling off his jacket and dunking it in the creek. "How good is your aim? I doubt a wet rag would be enough to do any real damage but it might sting enough to buy us some time." He pulled it out of the creek sopping wet and tied it tightly into a ball before handing it to Gia. If anyone would have the strength to hurl a glorified spit ball from this far away with enough accuracy to get it's attention it would have to be a vampire.
There was some part of him that would have liked to try to find a more peaceful solution since the hound hadn't immediately tried to eat Ferris. But if it didn't want granola and it was responsible for the mauling's then he gathered that if they didn't get Ferris out of there then it absolutely would try to eat Ferris. Maybe if they could get everyone on the other side of the creek from it then they could have enough time to come up with an actual solution.

Waylon finished making the splint for Price then Waylon would drag the boy to the nearest tree and hide him, "Sleep it off big boy," he whispered to Price before Waylon took off towards the last place he saw Darcy retreat too. Pulling his gun back out it wouldn't take him long to find the seemingly frozen Darcy...Ferris...that stinky whatever the fuck it was creature...he couldn't stop because what had distracted the thing wasn't enough.
Blowing past Darcy Waylon fired his pistol into the air, "HEY FUCKER! COME ON!"
If it caught the things attention Waylon would make sure it followed him once again deeper into he woods away from everyone, was it stupid? Yes, but it was his duty to save lives..
The deer was the a blessing, the beast took off after the deer and Harland the werewolf rounded a set of trees hoping to out himself parallel with the thing. If he did Harland would throw his much larger frame against the body of the beast sharp unfriendly teeth aiming to plunge into the throat of the beast, ripping and attempting to take the beast down by tearing out its throat.

The Fire Chief wasn't trying to get away because if he outpaced the hound, it would chase someone else. Besides, those fifteen seconds gave him ple ty of time to think with his engine. He kept backing up, toward Mikey and Gia and the creek. Bullets hadn't done anything, but water might. Of course there was the chance it just made it angry or it was magical fire, but he had put out the flames these things caused. That fire was normal. It could be put out.
Ferris stayed in the hound's line of sight, actually surprised it took so much time with the snack. It was a nice thought to hope he could tame the thing he supposed.
Ferris was close enough to make a break for the creek when it looked back up at him. He saw Darcy and his stomach lurched. And then their idiot sheriff, who was pulling a very similar, if louder and further away, move to his own. Away from the water. Dammit, Sanders.
"Hey, no, eyes on me," he encouraged, knowing full well Darcy would kill him after this whether it worked or not. He stared down the hound and, on the chance it lunged his direction, would bolt for the water.

Giacomo gave Mikey Royce a long, thoughtful look and then nodded his head with a sigh. Fine. He would help. Damn human and the attachment that Gia currently had to him. There would have been a time when he'd have just left them all to deal with this on their own but Sweetwater was his home and he cared about at least one person here. He couldn't just leave now.
"A friend of yours is a friend of mine." Okay, that wasn't exactly true. Gia did have a rather...possessive side to him that Mikey had not yet seen the full extent of, but so far he had no reason to believe that Ferris was anything more than friend to Mikey. Maybe he was getting attached. Maybe Mikey would leave the same way Annika had. He shook those thoughts from his head as Mikey took off his jacket, wondering what he had in mind until the man explained.
Things got a little noisy then. The sound of the sheriff charging in to try to draw the beast away while Ferris caught on and tried to keep it's attention on him and towards the creek. Gia knew that Ferris was the one who was on the right track. "Hmmm," he hummed thoughtfully and took the jacket from Mikey. "I have an idea."
Waiting to see who caught the hounds attention, Gia, still not caring about hiding his speed when life and death were on the line and with little to lose at the moment, sped towards the hound and would try to use the jacket hook around it's body briefly as he flung the creature towards the creek though making sure it wasn't at all close to Mikey in case his aim did in fact miss.
Harland Shaw, now the only one in the group on his own other than the unconscious but currently safe Price Vanderson, went after the hellhound as he gained an advantage on him as the monster was distracted by the deer. However, he seemed to not take into account the fact that creature while made of flesh of bone, was also filled with immensely hot fire. As the jaws of the werewolf clamped over the throat of the hellhound it would met with blood that wasn't unlike lava. Harland's reaction was quick enough to not completely melt off his jaw but the burning was certainly real and the wound seemed to do little damage to the hellhound who merely yelped in pain before turning it's full attention back to Harland and pouncing upon the werewolf to grapple monster to monster.
Darcy Vance arrived to watch the scene but merely froze upon her arrival. Waylon Sanders did no such thing and came in charging, shouting and shooting his gun in an attempt to draw the hound's attention away from Ferris Felwinter. Though the Fire Chief tried to capture it's attention back in his direction, ultimately the hound would be more drawn to Waylon and would turn in the opposite to start bounding towards the sheriff.
Mikey Royce handed Giacomo Ettore his soaking coat and the vampire dashed off towards the hound. He successfully managed to capture the monster in the wet cloth, causing a sharp whine of intense pain to sound from the creature but ultimately the toss towards the creek was close but didn't quite make it into the water. Instead the hellhound landed on the bank of the creek on the same side as everyone else and yelled and whined in pain as it struggled to get out of the jacket still stuck around its body.

Ferris had a mixed moment of relief and anxiety to see the hound turn its attention from him to Waylon. But it barely had changed course before Giacomo appeared from behind him. The man was fast. Unnaturally fast. Actually, with his understanding in this town, supernaturally fast. Whatever was going on with him, he wasn't a werewolf.
While he had no supernatural speed or strength, Ferris was more than ready to put his calm under pressure reaction speed to the test. Whatever Giacomo was, he'd risked himself to put the hound where none of the rest of them could, and Ferris was keenly aware that Mikey's dripping wet jacket had hurt it, from the whines of pain. He moved quickly, intent to finish the job of pushing the beast in the water, with or without help and using the jacket if he could. It wasn't a well thought out plan, but he let his instinct win.
