03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
Darcy didn’t like how things were smelling, and she suddenly felt very uneasy about the number of humans participating in this particular venture. She was concerned for the wolves as well, but at least they had ways of defending themselves that weren’t strictly dependent on a weapon not misfiring.
“Of course Sheriff… there seems to be a rather distinct path leading further into the woods, but with the size of this group I don’t think it’s smart for us to pursue the lead. Over.” Darcy released the radio at her shoulder and looked to the group. The Vanderson fellow had managed to fall, and not at all with grace or style, though she didn’t chuckle. She felt on edge… almost feral. Her wolf was not happy taking a backseat ride for the current situation.
She approached Harland Shaw and Casey Marshall , trying to figure out the best course of action. “It’s not safe for the entire group to follow the path into the woods, how do y’all feel about pursuing that lead?” Darcy asked to two, though hesitant to send them off without her. But she couldn’t leave the rest of the group without a little supernatural presence.

After a little fiddling with the settings Mikey took a photo of the odd trail. He might have continued to think it was just a bit odd if it weren't that he noticed Gia was wandering away from the scene. He knew that the vampire was disinterested in the investigation. He looked between the trail and Gia deciding if it was worth it to keep up the search or smarter to stick by Gia even if it meant wandering away from the charred trail. He frowned and took a few steps to follow Giacomo. "Something I should know?" Mikey whispered wondering if he had picked up on anything or what it was Gia was trying to say earlier.

Price was bored. There was nothing to shoot at, and nothing to phone home about. He whipped out his cell, intent on finding something else to do, but the battery was out.
“Dammit.” He hissed. Should’ve gone home the night l before rather than staying with his friends. They had a habit of burning phone chargers.

"Copy that Ranger, I trust your judgment so send who you think you can depend on, over," hooking the walkie back on his belt he watched the pair who weren't keen on guns and then towards Dominic "Nico" Vanderson, "Mister Vanderson do you mind following me or you can go with them two seeing as they aren't to keen on weapons," Waylon was going to go in the direction Giacomo Ettore was trying to avoid.
Harland was waiting for direction with his hands on his hips, itching to do something most of all following whatever scent this was. Casey seemed to be a quiet kid which was fine with Harland because it meant less attitude even though Harland out of his pack was easier to get alone with. When Darcy approached them and asked them if they'd handle following whatever trail they could he shook his head yes, "Yeah that's fine, you going to take the others off somewhere where this smell isnt?"
It wasn't quick work by any means. As much as Giacomo was trying to deter the others from following the proper trail, it seemed the Sheriff would not be put off, essentially forcing Giacomo and Mikey to follow along.
Harland and Casey took the lead in following the trail they had found but after a time the trail went cold and the returned to Darcy to tell her their findings. With a trail still to follow the sheriff they decided it would be best to join together to continue on.
The group with Darcy (Harland, Casey, Price, and Madison) joined up with the group with Waylon and the Fire Chief, Ferris Felwinter, was called in to join them as his knowledge of might prove to be of particular use.
A few decided that they would head back into town while the rest continued. Hot on the trail of something, they would come together with their findings and realize that the path they were currently following would likely eventually meet up with the same path that Harland and Casey had followed in the other part of the forest.
All gathered together they would suddenly start to smell smoke.

"This isn't something natural," he whispered to Mikey Royce before he was essentially forced to relent and follow the sheriff along the path, looking alert and on edge. After a time the group was rearranged with some people leaving and the rest all joining together. He had even tried to convince Mikey to leave, for his own safety. Now Giacomo acted like a magnet to Mikey. Not in an obvious sort of way but he kept the man as close as he could. The vampire was clearly on alert for something dangerous and he wasn't about to let Mikey get in harms way.
Now something else drew his attention. He lifted his nose in the air to catch the scent more fully. "Is that...smoke?" he asked to no one in particular.
Darcy was relieved when they agreed to send more people home and just merge into being one group, it made her feel like the situation could be more easily managed should anything happen. She couldn’t help but eye Giacomo curiously, she didn’t have much experience with vampires, so she didn’t quite understand his angle for being here. Despite her curiosity, she was immediately brought back to attention as the smell of smoke met her nostrils. She looked to Giacomo as he asked aloud exactly what she was thinking.
“What the fuck is going on out here?” She muttered under her breath as she looked around, trying to get a better idea of where the smoke smell was coming from.

The day had been long but he was feeling less stressed having downsized the groups into one and then sending more than a few home. Waylon was glad to have the Fire chief, having the extra eyes along with his and the Rangers was another small blessing. He wasn't a firefighter by a long shot but he knew a bit about the smoke, "Ferris, chief, what's that smoke tell us? Gray and dark means it's just started right?"
The way that Giacomo Ettore had that it wasn't natural did put Mikey on edge. When he and the sheriff had been discussing it, unnatural had meant there might be either a some psycho on the loose or an out control prank. When Gia said it that meant it was something not even he could identify. It wasn't that he didn't take the man's warning seriously. He knew that he should have take Giacomo's advise and gone home. It was more that old habits died hard and now that he was feeling the adrenalin rush of knowing there was something that even a vampire might worry about...he had to see it. Mikey was in the middle of telling Gia that he'd make it up to him somehow, if they manage to get the photo, when he made the comment about the smoke. Unlike some of the other members of the group his sense of smell wasn't all that good. Mikey looked around at the tree tops. He couldn't immediately spot the trail of smoke, nor did he know enough to be able to tell where the fire might be from the smoke. If a wildfire did break out it was best to retreat to a low clearing if they could manage it. Well it would be BEST to NOT be in the Forrest at all but where was the fun in that.
He was momentarily surprised to see Ferris had joined the group. Then he remembered that of course you would want the fire chief involved for a potential Forrest fire. It didn't seem that windy out at the moment but no one could predict the weather.

The Fire Chief stopped by the other team to pick them up in his Ford F250, giving them a ride to join up with the rest of the Sheriff's posse.
Although normally the epitome of timely, as one would expect of a firefighter, Ferris arrived late to the search party. Partly because he wasn't sure it was the best idea to just be wandering the woods with some strange thing that not even the werewolves understood. But he wasn't going to leave civilians on their own and that only became more heighted seeing Mikey here. Of course, the young man was interested in the bizarre and exploring. Ferris just hoped his head was okay. And anyway, the Sheriff and Darcy needed back up.
Like the last time he had hiked the woods around town, he was dressed for the occasion. Flannel over-shirt, thicker jacket, well-worn dark denim jeans, and work boots, concealed carry side arm in his shoulder holster. He strongly hoped he didn't have to use it this time either.
The sudden scent of smoke was alarming. And considering Darcy hadn't mentioned it sooner, he had a feeling it wasn't from some standard fire. Not that his nose could tell much else other than that it was ahead of them, further down the charred trail. "White," he corrected. "White smoke has water vapor. The darker the more dangerous." To put it very simply, at least, as there were plenty of other smoke colors and reasons for them. But while they could smell it, the forest wasn't filled with heavy smoke. Barely enough to see it and impossible to tell the color. "We should keep moving," he said, glancing at Darcy and then the Sheriff before continuing to follow the trail of charred undergrowth. He kept a close eye on how the smoke changed, the color, the density, and how it moved, to use those clues to find the source.
He wasn't too worried yet about a wildfire. His team had worked a number of nights to set up fire breaks to help prevent anything from reaching the town or other residential areas and there was one relatively close west of here.
Harland wasn't focused on perhaps a rouge troublemaker or a wolf pup anymore being the source of the current situation but instead being back in the presence of that dead smell...it made him growl (more of a deep grunt of disapproval). It was rotten. Harland had found himself wondering toward it because the human young man (Mikey Royce) seemed to be in the thick of it, and if one thing in this world existed that he absolutely couldn't trust that was of the undead. He didn't offer a take on the smoke instead he questioned Giacomo Ettore, "Where are you from?"

Price wrinkled his nose at the smell. It didn’t smell like someone smoking pot, which was a pity. Unlike the group, he wasn’t so curious about it. Better to walk away from a fire than towards it. He was tempted to return to town with those that left, but he decided to stick it out. Curiosity (or nosiness) could be a curse.
He hung back, not engaging with anyone, blue eyes flickering over the company and their exchanges.
The group continued along the trail at a slow and cautious pace, trying to keep an eye out for the smoke. Those with sharper scents would notice that the smell seemed to be coming from the west for a while but then suddenly it seemed to also come from the east. Being inside the trees would make it harder to see from below but they might spot thick dark grey smoke beginning to rise above the treetops from something down below.
Soon they would start to hear the sounds of branches cracking just out of sight, followed by a low rumbling growl on their left and then again on their right.
- Only the smoke has been seen so far, the rest is just sounds. - Please roll a d10 or whatever 1/10 odds you use and put that number at the top of your next post. - Just a reminder that this episode has a risk factor of bodily harm. This could be broken bones, burns, etc that may leave lasting effects or scars. If you do not want to put your character at risk for injury, this will be last chance to have them bow out. - I am working to finish this up soon, I know it's been going on much longer than I originally stated and that's my fault, but I'm hoping to provide a resolution as soon as we can <3

Giacomo wasn't the biggest fan of werewolves but he didn't have an automatic hatred for them either. He'd met a few in his long long life that had proved to him that they aren't all bad. However, most had problems with their tempers and could be a major pain in the ass. Having a bunch of werewolves in their group now was something Giacomo was aware of. The canine smell was rather unappetizing.
When Harland Shaw approached him and Mikey Royce while they walked, Giacomo instinctively placed himself between the two as if trying to protect Mikey from the wolf though he could tell that Harland was more likely to be aggressive towards himself than Mikey. "I am from Sweetwater, obviously," he replied, allowing a faint Italian accent decorate his words. "Originally, vengo dall'Italia. Perché?" he asked in Italian, cocking his head with a faint challenging smile.
However, their conversation was interrupted at the sound of breaking branches, a sound he knew this wolf would hear even better than he could. It made his footsteps but when the sound of a growl followed he stopped in his steps and instead moved to place himself between the sound and Mikey. When the second growl sounded from the opposite direction Giacomo snarled and moved physically grab Mikey, keeping him directly at his back. He was ready to pick up Mikey and run if he had to. While he didn't know exactly what this was, he was sure he could outrun it.
