03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
[Tag: Ferris Felwinter ] While the rest of her work shift felt like it took forever after the teasing texts and little videos she’d sent to Ferris; it did give her time to consider what she might wear to meet up with her best friend at the town’s festival this evening.
By the time Darcy was home, had showered and changed, it was nearly 8. She was supposed to be picking up Ferris from the fire station shortly. Her dark curls were a touch more tame, though mostly her hair was still drying. She settled on a pair of skinny jeans, a bohemian style red maxi kimono duster, and a pair of strappy sandles. The deep neckline of the shirt left Darcy’s chest tattoo on display. It wasn’t often she looked more ‘dressed’ up, but she wanted to be seen wearing something other than her typical jean shorts, t-shirt and flannel. Plus with the earlier teasing, she wanted to put a little more effort, not that she expected him to comment on it.
Darcy sent a text to Ferris letting him know she was headed his way, then grabbed her truck keys. She gave a wave to some of her neighbors who looked to be grilling out themselves and she couldn’t help but chuckle. She was very much looking forward to the festival foods, though not nearly as much as she was looking forward to seeing Ferris. He deserved a fun night, after everything he’d been dealing with lately. She only hoped he was able to find himself in a mood to enjoy the night. She would certainly do her best to help.

Whatever little bit of energy the man had in him, the festival took it all out of him. Ferris would have felt more mentally and physically prepared to handle emergencies and rescues and fires than crowds of people and socializing. He kept trying to remind himself of the silver lining that was a particular phone conversation. But it was tough.
He'd returned to the station along with the rest of the crew and the fire truck and engine. Ethan could tell the Fire Chief was wearing thin and all but shoved him into the gym to figure himself out. Ferris both appreciated it and hated it at the same time. But Ethan was right. He couldn't go around snapping at people for just doing their normal job. He was pretty sure if Cisco hadn't asked off to be with his daughter, he would have gotten into a lot worse. The two men didn't share a wavelength, but recently, Ferris had been on a short fuse.
Having the room to himself, he started on the treadmill, warming up to using the weight bench and some of the other machines. It wasn't until he was soaked in sweat and ready for a shower that he realized what time it was. Late. His shift had ended half an hour ago. A new text from Darcy made him scramble to the showers, texting her back a thumbs up. Meanwhile, he'd not forgotten about her earlier texts. He'd simply been saving them for a space he could really relax and enjoy them. In this instance, that was the showers. The werewolf was fantastic. And far too naughty for her own good, putting on a display like that at work, alone or not. As much as he would have liked to really enjoy himself, his heart wasn't in it. And the showers didn't stay private for very long anyway as a few others changed shifts.
He rinsed off quickly, changed into jeans and a T-shirt, and headed outside to smoke around the back of the building, texting Darcy to let her know where he was. The nicotine didn't exactly help as much as he hoped, but it took some of the edge off. He was just pulling out another cigarette when he heard the familiar sound of Darcy's truck. Which was good because he only had one more left in the pack. He rounded the corner of the building, boots heavy as he walked toward her truck.
Things had been a bit difficult for Ferris as of late, and Darcy wanted so badly to help her friend be able to enjoy at least a little bit of fun. Even if she had to drag him around for it for a while, she just needed him to know just how much he mattered. Especially to her. And while she ought to just be honest with him about her feelings, she couldn’t do that to him right now. He had so much going on that he was handling, he didn’t need a bomb like her being in love with him dropped on him.
Though she knew better than to, she couldn’t help but glance at the text from him as she made the very familiar trip to the fire station. She couldn’t help the bit of adrenaline that seemed to course through her as she neared his location. She couldn’t help it, when it came to Ferris she was utterly smitten. Seeing him round the corner of the building as she pulled into the parking lot, she couldn’t help but smile.

Ferris saw her smile but didn't manage to return it. He was glad to see her though, walking around to the passenger's side and opening the door. Ferris stood there a moment, looking at her with something akin to relief. To be down with work. To be with a friend. To know how much she was looking forward to hanging out and while he couldn't bring himself to express it, he was looking forward to enjoying the little festival with her too.
"Hey Darcy," he greeted, climbing into her truck and collapsing into the seat. He winced and shifted a bit, moving his own keys to a front pocket of his pants. Grey eyes raked over her and her much more...playful outfit. "I feel underdressed," he noted, buckling his seatbelt. "Glad to see you survived work." More than just survived. She looked downright energized to be here.
Of course just the sight of him had her heart beating wildly in her chest, suddenly very relieved she was the werewolf with a heightened sense of hearing and not him. He hadn’t even opened the door yet and she could feel the way her body got practically electrified at him being so near. Sure she knew he had some wild effects on her body at times but this, this felt like-
Oh shit, was she in heat?!
When he opened the door Darcy couldn’t help but give that ridiculous grin of hers, the look on his face made her want to hug the man. But, she was driving and needed to keep her wits about her, and just catching his scent made her want to bite her lip. She would refrain though, instead she would return his greeting. “Hey sexy ass.” She teased with a playful wink as she watched him climb into the seat and wince. This of course made her smile falter, but she wasn’t trying to smother him. She was lucky he was even coming out with her tonight, she didn’t want to press her luck. “Working too hard?” She settled for asking instead.
She could his eyes taking her in and she chuckled at his words, shaking her head. “Oh stop, you look great.” Darcy shot him a grin before she eased the truck back into the flow of traffic, only after she heard his seatbelt click into place. She gave a casual shrug of her shoulders. “It was very quiet and lonely at the station today, but I managed.” She teased a playful smile but kept her eyes on the road. Parking wasn’t that easy to find, but eventually she managed. “If I had thought of it, I could’ve just let the truck at the fire station and we could have walked. Oh well.” She shook her head, curls bouncing at the motion.

Ferris grunted. He didn't feel much like anything right now. But he was here. Her wink earned a fleeting smile that was only slightly forced. He was exhausted, even having spent most of the day just standing next to the fire engine. It had been a warm day and they didn't have a tent. He was pretty sure he was going to have a faint farmer's tan from today alone.
“Not enough,” he said. But she was right. He was doing his best to stay busy and away from his apartment. He wasn't sleeping all that well, which didn't help.
“So quiet,” he echoed, shaking his head. The videos on his phone would beg to differ.
The Fire Chief shrugged. It wasn't that far away and he could get himself back if needed. He leaning a hand on the sill and looking out as she parked, climbing out with a stretch, shoulders protesting. “Looks a lot different in the dark,” he noted. The fair rides were lit up, some booths were closed, others had little lamps. There was just as much of a crowd though and it still smelled like fried food and sugar comas.
Darcy was fairly used to her friend’s moods and had been around him enough to know when he wasn’t in the best of places. She fought off the frown that threatened to pull at her face as directed her attention instead to the road and her driving. She almost wondered if this was even a good idea anymore. Clearly he wasn’t in the mood and she was beginning to doubt he’d be a fan of her playfulness tonight.
She bit her bottom lip as she parked, not sure what to say in response to his very minimal answers. Granted the two had very different days in their respective lines of work, but she felt a bit disappointed. Darcy had been looking forward to seeing the man all day, and it wasn’t even about the playful teasing. She could handle keeping her hands to herself for he wasn’t in the mood for her particular flavor of fun.
She took a moment longer in the car before easier out of the seat and leaning against the hood. “Look, I get if it you don’t want to be here. I can take you back to the station house if you’d rather try to rest.” But she stepped around the truck, grabbed his hands and gave a grin. “But, I would love it if you stayed and just tried to have a little fun, please?” She gently tugged his hands in the direction of the entrance. “I’ll buy you all the forms of potatoes covered in cheese that you could want.” As much as she wanted time with him, she wouldn’t force him to stay if he wasn’t up for it. But if he wasn’t staying, she was going to just call it a night and go home herself.

Ferris leaned against Darcy's truck, once again fiddling with the lighter in his pocket. He didn't used to carry that with him at all times, but he'd been stressed and bored and in need of distractions a lot recently.
He glanced over his shoulder as Darcy leaned on the hood. The man shook his head and pulled himself away from the car, turning around to look at the woman who was trying an awful lot harder than he was to just be there. Ferris mustered a smile. "I'm good - well...not...you know what I mean." She was probably the only person who knew what he meant. He removed his hands from his pockets so she could take them, taking a deeper breath and trying to let her infectious grin work its magic.
"Okay, okay. I got in the truck didn't I? Though...if I hold out for longer, will you buy me a beer too?" he meant it as a joke, but in classic fashion, his tone didn't quite hit the way a normal person's might. But Ferris smiled as he followed after her, doing his best to shrug off his mood. It was difficult, but for all the effort Darcy was putting in, it seemed the least he could do was pretend for an hour. It wouldn't hurt.
If there was anyone in town who could understand what he meant as he seemed to stumble through how he felt; it was definitely Darcy. The man was her best friend, she had quite the knack for being able to see through the bullshit, should he try to act otherwise. It was likely annoying; but that was her job as his best friend. She was allowed to pester and annoy him into having fun and just letting loose a little.
“Oh trust me; I do.” She said with a half grin and a playful wink. Taking his hands and gently pulling him in tow as she took small steps toward the festival. Darcy had made up her mind; they were going to find some food and try to have fun. They both needed this.
“Tell you what, I will absolutely buy you a beer, but you’re going to at least pretend like you’re happy to be here… or at least happy to see me.” She was of course teasing, even if he wasn’t as excited to be around her as she was to be near him, it was okay. He was right; he got in the truck. What more could she ask for?
“I mean, I don’t regularly sext, maybe I did it wrong?” She shook her head with a laugh, dropping his hands and instead slipping her hands into her back pockets. Only a little embarrassed with herself and thankful that any color in her cheeks was disguised by the dark, as the parking areas weren’t well lit.

Ferris was convinced that were he to mirror Darcy's excitement, she would take him by the shoulders and demand to know what he had done with her friend. He would have wanted to know too, because it would be nice to be like that all the time rather than how he was.
He huffed softly in fake annoyance mixed with real disappointment. Or maybe it was the reverse of that. Or neither. "I'm just going to be up front with you, I can pretend to do one of those things. The other one I don't have to pretend, I am happy to see you, I just..." he shrugged, and didn't finish the thought. He did mentally kick himself to try and dredge up a bit more effort as they walked into the main thoroughfare. She deserved that much.
Bringing up the videos and more than revealing texts messages she had exchanged with him earlier was certainly one way to get his pulse pounding. "You're so subtle. I see you took my note to heart," he said, shaking his head. He had told her once to be less subtle because he was an idiot. Not that that was her fault. Even with his dour mood, his eyes didn't stray from her person for very long. Especially when she put her hands in her back pockets like that. But they were in a public place and, tease though she might, there was only so much a guy could get away with doing to his friend. He caved to one though. "Come on then, I'm starving and I was promised fried potatoes and cheese." Ferris stepped closer and wrapped an arm around her waist, hurrying her along.
Never would Darcy expect him to behave bow she did, especially not without some form of medication. Darcy was just… well, so very Darcy. She drank, she danced and occasionally sang, hiked, and laughed… a LOT. And not because she had never experienced hardships in life, but because she believed that life was an experience and she was going to make the most of it. She didn’t expect his to be like her. Darcy quite liked Ferris as he was, depression, grumpy attitude and sarcasm gift wrapped in the body of a sexy Canadian man.
Who was she kidding, ‘quite liked’ didn’t even begin to crack the surface in her feelings for him.
She raised a brow at his words, then that smile of hers softened as she nodded. “It’s okay.” She assured him with a gentle shrug and brushed her shoulder against his. Okay, so maybe there were times when she was a bit like a dog, and she just needed to be told she hadn’t been forgotten and that she had been missed. Not that she expected such sentiments from Ferris. She was the one who did all that.
The sudden increase in his heart rate at the mention of the videos definitely earned a smile from her, and she feigned coy ignorance for a moment. “Who, me?” She teased with a wink and a gentle shake of her head, knowing exactly what he meant. Darcy couldn’t help but laugh at his words, her cheeks turning a soft shade of pink when his arms wrapped around her waist and he ushered them toward the food vendors. “Thats right, fried potatoes, cheese and beer.” she reminded him with a grin. She couldn’t help the smiles, she was just happy to be there with him.

Ferris returned her soft smile with a small one of his own. It was at least a weight off his shoulders to know he didn't have to explain to her. At least not all the time. He still tried, because he wanted her to know he was trying he just...wasn't very good at it. He knew he was better around people, and he liked being around Darcy.
He never forgot that she could hear well enough to hear his heartbeat and his breathing. But there was honestly nothing he could do about it or would even want to do about it. Weird as it was, it was kind of comforting too. He felt...safe. Which was a feeling he hadn't got all that often. It was why he told her he meant it when he said he appreciated all of her. He snorted as she pretended not to know what she was doing. He'd call her a fox if she wasn't a werewolf.
He looked around at the vendors, taking in the sights and smells and getting the feeling he was woefully ill equipped compared to her. "Well? I know you know where the French fries are," he said, pushing her again to lead them to whatever food truck or tent had what he wanted. There were a few shops still open, but mostly what was left was the food and the rides.
Darcy’s smile widened as she noticed Ferris’s relaxed demeanor. It was nice to see him letting his guard down, even if just a little. She appreciated that he didn’t feel the need to explain everything to her all the time; sometimes, just being together was enough.
As they strolled through the fairgrounds, Darcy’s keen senses picked up on the mix of sounds, smells, and sights. The aroma of various foods filled the air, and the buzz of excitement from the remaining rides and vendors created a lively atmosphere. She could hear the subtle rhythm of Ferris’s heartbeat and the steady cadence of his breathing, which, while perceptible, added a sense of calm to the moment.
“Alright, alright,” Darcy said with a playful huff, nudging Ferris forward. “I admit, I might have a bit of an advantage here. Let’s see if we can find those cheesy fries.”
She led him through the crowd, weaving between food stalls and brightly lit tents. Her nose guided her toward the savory scent of fries, and she soon spotted the truck with the long line of eager customers.
“There we go,” She said, pointing to the food truck with a grin. “Looks like they’re as popular as ever. Trust me, you’ll love them.”
As they approached the truck, Darcy glanced back at Ferris, her expression one of genuine enjoyment. “I’m glad we’re doing this. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a difference.”

"That's a long ass line for..." he glanced at his watch. "Nine at night." He supposed he understood the craving for fake cheese and fried foods at all times of the day, but still. He was admittedly a lot hungrier than he wanted to let on. Not that Darcy couldn't tell. But complain though he did, Ferris stepped in line anyway. He was determined. And hopeful they wouldn't close up shop before he got a chance to eat.
He looked over the menu casually, debating if he wanted anything else. "What about you? Something more than potatoes and cheese, probably?" He guessed. For a werewolf who admitted to always being hungry, he never saw her eat very much. Not more than normal anyway. Of course, maybe she just went hunting and preferred her other meals raw. In which case, he was glad she didn't eat those around him.
Her words made him desperately cover up a frown, not trying to seem like he didn't want to be here with her. He did, he just...wasn't sure he could express that. "Yeah. Just gotta keep moving," he said vaguely. But he meant it. Ferris knew if he just...let his body go through the motions, he'd get over it. Probably. He cleared his throat, really tired of talking about him. About them. "How's everyone on your block?" he asked instead. Considering he hadn't heard of any arguments or fights breaking out, probably things were much the same with her pack and the other.
His comment on the length of the line made her laugh, she couldn’t help it. Just about any of the food vendors that were still open were busy. Despite the time of night. They seemed to know that the tourist town still had plenty of people interested in food this late at night. “Well, it must be amazing then.” She teased, that charming smile of hers flashing at him with a playful wink as she stood there beside him. She wasn’t about to be the first to pull away. Not when she felt such a rush from the simple act of his arm wrapped around her waist.
“Oh, I’m definitely getting more than just some cheesy fries. I’m getting the loaded bacon, chicken and ranch fries.” She insisted, pointing to the picture of a plate of crinkle cut fries covered in cheese sauce, bacon pieces, chicken pieces and ranch drizzled on it. Of course, at a fair she was much more likely to eat as she wanted. There were typically enough people that no one fixated on how much any one specific person ate. “I heard another truck has a really good brisket Mac n’ cheese bowl, so I’m definitely going to try that one too.” Darcy admitted with a firm shake of her head. And then grinned.
“And of course, I’ve gotta get some of the sweets, funnel cakes are always solid, but have you had a deep fried Oreo?” She pressed a hand dramatically to her chest and shook her head, curls bouncing at the movement. “I know it’s basically deep fried diabetes, but it’s soooo good!”
Of course, she appreciated his attempts to cover the frown. Darcy was more than aware this wasn’t exactly his idea of a thrilling evening. Honestly, she was just happy to be there with him. His question made her give a slow nod. “Things are… as well as can be expected.” She said slowly, not wanting to dive too deeply into the recent strains on her friendship with Rhett, or how much she was dreading the call about her great grandfather finally passing. “So long as every sticks to the recommended camping and hunting areas, we shouldn’t have any issues.” Of course, this was easier said than done at times. But at least she wasn’t constantly being challenged and defending her place as Alpha.
