03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
It was a busy day at the Tribune Headquarters, and the editors office was a flurry of people coming in and out to ask questions, discuss deadlines and current projects. And yet the person he was waiting to see was still not in. Not that he was late, Cisco just was looking forward to introducing his photographer Tate Parrish to his new intern; Calliope Bartlett .
She had the basics, but she needed to spend some time with their seasoned photographer, he would be the one to know if she had what it takes. And he wanted to have a moment to assure him that she wasn’t hired simply because she was attractive. She was also smart and had managed to get Ferris to agree to a firefighter’s calendar, which he also needed to fill Tate in on.
“Maggie, when Tate gets here can you please send him directly to my office?” He poked his head out of his office to speak to his secretary before closing the door and taking a few phone calls to confirm details from a few stories in his desk.
No, Tate wasn't late, but he had also never made a point to be early for anything so he was usually right on time...and sometimes maybe a few minutes late. Still, he valued this job so much and he made sure to never do anything that might put his employment here at risk. He came in with his shoulder on a strap and sitting against his hip and a backpack slung over his back.
He ran his fingers through his hair. It was slightly greasy, he really needed to wash it but it always looked a bit of a mess, often falling in his eyes and looking questionable on if he'd brushed it or not. Maggie was quick to tell him that Cisco needed him in his office and he nodded without a word and moved to the boss' door. He knocked twice before opening the door a crack before Cisco had invited him, and poked just his head into the room, shaking his hair out of his eyes with a toss of his head he looked to Cisco.
"You needed me, boss man?"

Typically Cisco let his photographers hire their own interns, but he knew they needed someone quickly should Tate fall ill, so he’d taken the liberty. And now he needed to inform Tate and get them introduced. He was in the process of responding to a few emails when a knock on his door caught his attention. He glanced up from over his computer screen and gave a nod and smile to the young man at the door. “Tate, yes. Come on in.” He motioned to one of the chairs as he sorted through a few folders in his briefcase, pulling out one that held Calliope Bartlett’s portfolio examples.
“So, not to be indelicate, but I wanted to jump straight to the point. I hired an intern for you; Calliope Bartlett.” He slid the file to the edge of his desk, encouraging him to take a look at some of her work. “She’s green, but has potential. And she’s a bulldog, she even got Chief Felwinter to agree to a firefighter’s Calender for the station. I would like you to take point on that, unless you want to leave it for her… and I thought it would be a good idea for her to tag along on some of your next projects.”
Tate entered the room, leaving the door cracked open unless Cisco stated otherwise and plopped down on one of the chairs, his fingers absently playing with the fabric on the arms of the chair as his boss looked through his briefcase. Though when he spoke again Tate's stomach twisted in a knot and his fingers on the chair froze. An intern? And he was supposed to, what, train her? It wasn't that Tate was against the idea of having help but he knew how awkward he was and being tossed into a social situation with a stranger unexpectedly certainly threw him for a loop.
He almost missed the part about the firefighter's calendar. What...what kind of calendar were they talking about and how had this girl managed to get Ferris to agree? Still, he didn't want to seem anything less than gracious. Tate needed this job. He loved this job. He cleared his throat as he picked up the file and looked through some of Calliope's work. It wasn't bad actually, Cisco had a good eye.
"Ya, ya, sure," he half mumbled. "Whatever you say boss man. This will be great." It wasn't his most convincing performance but he thought it was good enough. "Is she coming in today?" he asked, mentally trying to prepare himself for a day he hadn't prepared for.

“I didn’t mean to just spring this on you, but she was a lot more impressive in person than I had anticipated.” Okay, so maybe it didn’t help that she literally showed up wearing a black lace bodysuit with jeans and a coat. So he wasn’t quite capable of saying anything but ‘yes’ to her. So he might have had a thing for assertive women, it was hot. Especially in the younger women he’d been meeting lately. Callie was of course off limits now, as her employer he wasn’t about to get in any trouble.
“She said she would like to come in today if you had the time. I didn’t want to presume to know your plans, so I told her I would talk with you first.” He glanced at Tate with a slight nod, leaning back in his chair a little bit. “You still have the final say here, if you meet her and she’s not a good fit; you tell me and I’ll let her go. But I figured we could give her at least a week trial run.”
Okay. Today. This was happening today. It was a good thing he'd been working for the newspaper for as long as he had because it meant he often had to adapt his day around whatever story came up that day. It was with a sense of relief that he nodded. It was nice to know that he had the final say but even more nice to know that his boss trusted him enough to give him the final say.
"Yeah okay. That's totally fine. I was supposed to go take pictures of the opening of that new massage parlor in the shopping center this afternoon." He definitely wasn't convinced that it was actually only for therapeutic massage but maybe he'd be proven wrong. "She could come with me to that."

Cisco tapped away at a message on his phone from his son, but his eyes returned to Tate as he spoke and he gave him a reassuring smile. “That sounds like a plan, I’ll give her a call and let her know where to meet you.” he said with a nod as he made a note to himself on his post-it note stack to call Callie with the details of where to meet Tate later today.
“Thanks, I’ll try to keep my nose out of hiring interns for you after this, but I’m optimistic.” Cisco said and he leaned back in his chair, then raised a brow. “Oh! Could to email me a few pictures to pair with the article about the house fires?”
Tate was mentally preparing himself for having to be more engaged with someone while he worked, and actually teaching things. He gave a little quirk of smile when Cisco promised to not surprise him like this again, or that at least he'd try. He wouldn't hold that over him of course, Cisco was the boss after all. "Yeah, sure thing boss man, I'll do that right now." He'd wait a moment to make sure Cisco didn't have anything else to ask before he'd move to his desk to start finding the requested photos.

Cisco gave a nod to Tate, looking at his cell phone as it rang and he looked at the man with an apologetic expression. “Sorry, it’s my daughter’s calling.” He wrote down a post-it note with Callie’s name and number. “If you have any trouble finding her later, she should have her phone on her. She’s one of the Bartlett’s.” He said before picking up the cell phone and greeting his daughter. Putting the call on speaker as he sent a quick text to let the intern to let her know the location where she’d be meeting with Tate later.
Tate accepted the post it and scanned it briefly before nodded and tossing a salute to Cisco before departing. He went to his desk and emailed the photos that Cisco had requested before gathering his things and heading back out to meet with the new intern.
