West offered a forced grin. He'd been 'trying' for years. If he played the game, he lost. If he didn't play the game, he lost. But by not playing, he had more personal time. One of the perks of being the least favorite child was that neither parent wanted to spend time with him or ask him stupid questions about his day. He didn't envy Price that.
His father opening the kitchen door had him almost prepared to eat his internal words. But then he was gone again with just a warning coated in disappointment. West stared at the closed door. "Good to see you too, you prick," he grumbled and turned his attention back to the fridge for a coconut water and some kind of fruit before heading to the garage.

They headed into the dining room where people were already bustling about to prepare their meal. Alexis paid the help little attention, they were such a staple in their household that she hardly even noticed them most of the time, or at least not any more than she noticed the couch or the dining room table. It was all just part of their every day lives.
She watched with a little frown as Elijah peeked his head into the kitchen and she wondered if West would actually come out and join them this time. She beamed at her father as he pulled out a chair for her and she said down with a twinkle in her eye. "Thank you daddy," she said, feeling very much the Princess and only girl that she was.

Elijah gave an appreciative nod to his eldest son, glad to hear things seemed to be going well. Not that he was surprised, he never had any issues from Price in regards to his grades. “You’re right, silly of me to even ask.” He chuckled a little, releasing his hold on Alexis’ chair with a smile to her as he moved to take his own seat. “As for my work, it was… eventful. I’m still waiting for the photos to get back, I think Alexis will enjoy them a lot. But mostly just lots of dirt.” He gave a slight shrug , disappointed but not surprised that West hadn’t emerged from the kitchen to join them. Sometimes he both loved and hated how much his children took after him.
He wasn’t foolish enough to believe any of his children were perfect, but he appreciated the amount of effort at least Price and Alexis both attempted to show in their school and extracurricular activities. And West… well, he didn’t seem too bothered by it all. Not that he was a bad kid, he just didn’t care to play the family politics and preferred to do his own thing. Elijah envied his middle son when it came to that. “I was thinking about the family taking a trip going into the New Year.” He said, giving a nod to the waiting staff to begin plating and serving the food.
