Notable features: Ears pierced, often wears gloves year-round
PERSONALITY
Likes: Cleanliness, well-tailored suits, expensive whiskey, cocaine, Italian opera, politics, classical philosophy, playing the piano, French cooking, beautiful women, showing off, being in charge. Dislikes: People who talk too much, people who talk about their feelings, men and their agendas, take out restaurants, disorder, children, complaints. Strengths: Highly intellectual, gifted musician, charismatic, disciplined, prudent. Weaknesses: Arrogant, spiteful, unaffectionate, callous, power-hungry.
General personality: Nadine has heard it all before; that she's a cold-blooded reptile, a sociopathic bitch, a hateful elitist. But none of it has ever bothered her. The good thing about being indifferent to the needs of others is that you're also indifferent to their opinions. Nadine knows who she is. She doesn't need the love or affirmation of others. After all, it's not due to the love of others that she's gotten where she is today. Nadine has power, money, and influence -- three things that she wouldn't trade away for all the love in the world.
Her elitism isn't all about wealth and position. Even from a young age, it was clear that Nadine was incredibly gifted. A natural student and gifted musician, rarely does she meet someone who is her intellectual equal. She has a profound and sincere love of art and learning. It is there that she finds the feeling and romance that others don't think her capable of. However you may feel about her, one thing is for certain -- Nadine is truly something to behold.
HISTORY
Education: Bachelor of Music, Piano, The Juilliard School; J.D., Focus in Legal History, Yale Law School. Years in Sweetwater: 25 Family Members: Founding family member. Devin, father; Emmaline, mother (deceased), two brothers (YTB)
General History: Her father would always say that Nadine was an unexpected surprise. Devin and Emmaline weren’t intending to have any more children. Devin was, after all, a fixture in Sweetwater - central to every problem and every solution. He had never shown any interest in helping with the child-rearing, leaving his wife, Emmaline, with her hands full with two twin boys. But regardless, one cold February, Nadine arrived and changed her father’s life forever. Even from a young age, it was clear that Nadine was a gifted child. She captured her father’s attention in a way that his two sons had not. Anything Nadine wanted, she got. Private tutors, piano lessons, violin lessons, language classes - no expense was spared to help Nadine maximize her potential. For Devin, Nadine was to be the keystone of his legacy.
While brilliant in so many ways, there was somehow a piece missing. Nadine didn’t have the same vivaciousness that other children did. She had little interest in forming relationships with children her own age - preferring to study alone or hang out at town hall where her father worked as Councilman, talking to people as they came in and out. While her precociousness was endearing, her mother found Nadine’s disposition almost troubling. She was emotionally inflexible -- she never seemed to get upset or cry, nor did she get angry and throw tantrums. Especially as she got older, Emmaline would talk to her husband about her lying and manipulative behavior. He would accuse her of being jealous of Nadine’s gifts.
Nadine graduated high school early and got a degree in piano performance from The Juilliard School. She spent several years living in New York City, making a living as a classical accompanist and performer. It was there that she met Grace. Grace was the most incredible woman that Nadine had ever met. She was a painter -- sparkling and gentle and loving. Despite their differences, they fell in love and got married. For a couple years, things were great. But soon, Nadine became discontent with her life. The sameness as picking at her, and she wanted something different. She applied and was accepted into Yale Law. Grace and Nadine moved to Connecticut so that she could get her degree.
It was then that things started to fall apart. Far from their enchanting life in the art scene in New York, the cracks in Nadine’s armor began to show. She did love Grace, but her inability to be vulnerable and form deep connections began to take its toll. Grace felt like she didn’t know her anymore - like the person that she thought she knew was a façade, created so that Nadine could move through life with seeming normalcy. Halfway through getting her degree, Grace filed for divorce and moved back to New York. Regardless of what Grace might think, Nadine’s heart was broken.
It was around that time that Nadine’s father started to get sick. At first, it was just ordinary forgetfulness, but then things began to progress more quickly. Once his dementia really set in, it became clear to Nadine that she would have to move back to Sweetwater. But, she found out that being a shark in a small pond definitely has its advantages. Nadine has since assumed her father’s position on Town Council, supporting her father’s care through her salary and her sizable inheritance.
