HISTORY
Education: High School Years in Sweetwater: 2 Family Members: Father (Gregory Youngblood, 36 - Not in Sweetwater), Mother (June Thompson, 34), younger sister (Mary Jane Youngblood, 10)
General History: Ellis D.'s relatively short life has already been filled with more hurt, loss, grief, and trauma than the average elderly person in Sweetwater.
Ellis' father, Gregory, is the son of an investment company's CEO; aka his family's ridiculously rich.
Ellis' mother, June, a werewolf born in Sweetwater, is the daughter of alcoholic abusers who jump from job to job and live off of food stamps.
The two met while they were in high school after Gregory’s father took a job in Sweetwater. They both attended the party of a mutual friend and from the moment they laid eyes on each other they were hooked. Considering the difference in lifestyles, the only opportunity they had to see one another was at parties or in school. Their encounters always involved alcohol, various kinds of recreational drugs, and sex. June got pregnant with Ellis D. when she was fifteen.
Gregory's parents tried to blackmail June into aborting the baby, and when Gregory found this out he moved out. The two left town and found a grungy apartment that was little better than being homeless. Their sense of rejection and loss and prior exposure drove them to a lifestyle of barely getting by while spending all of their money on keeping their highs. Ellis D. was born into that situation, fondly named after one of their favorite things to consume--LSD.
Gregory and June tried to do better at various stages of their lives. They would attend rehab anytime the local department of family services caught wind of their appalling living conditions and threatened to take Ellis D. Their sobriety would only last long enough to satisfy, and once they were out from under inspection they would dive head first back into the life of addiction.
MJ was born when Ellis D. was 8. She was also named after one of their favorites, Mary Jane. She suffered far more from the drug exposure in the womb than Ellis D. did. She has always been sickly and troubled in the mind, much like their mother.
Gregory up and left June when Ellis D. was twelve. His parents invited him back into their lives and promised him wealth and a chance to redo things--as long as he left June and the children behind. Gregory was sorrowful but went through with it. The abandonment took June to the next level. Ellis D. had already been MJ's primary caregiver, but after their dad left it was pretty much the two on their own. During that year the local foster care investigator showed up and took them away.
Ellis D. and MJ were in foster care for two and a half years. They didn't see their mother once during that time, and were bounced around due to MJ's health problems and Ellis D.'s behaviors. They were in five different homes before they were placed with a kind older couple who didn't have any kids of their own. They were Taylor and Miranda Vincent. It worked with them. They loved them, gave them consistency, and were committed to them through the worst of times. Ellis D. started hoping against hope that this family would adopt them. They were willing, too...
Unfortunately that would have been too easy, and Ellis D's life had never been easy. A long lost relative of his mother's--a second cousin twice removed or something--showed up out of the blue claiming she wanted the kids. She became their kinship placement, their mother's rights were terminated, and the kids were adopted by "Aunt Lucy". Within six months and after extensive exposure to substance abuse and physical abuse, Ellis D. took MJ and ran away from Aunt Lucy's home. They ran the streets until the foster system caught wind of them again, at which point they fled. In running they came across their mother. She tagged along.
The three returned to Sweetwater. They did it quietly, without informing Gregory or his parents. They returned to find that Gregory had taken a new (better) wife and started a new (better) family. It turns out they had a rundown trailer waiting for them, the only thing left to the Thompson name.
It's been almost two years since the family arrived. Ellis D. Experienced his first shift shortly after, and June offered very little by way of explanation. He has been lone wolfing it, avoiding ever having to turn apart from the full moons. On the human side of things, Ellis D. has been juggling school and side gigs to pay for food and things for his family. His mother is basically a bum who steals from her son to buy her booze and otherwise sells her body to the scum of the town. MJ is in school as well, enrolled in Sweetwater's rather lacking special needs program. Ellis D. does what he has to for his family's good.
