03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
It was an average day at the diner and Kate had just finished baking several pecan pies. The smell of them lingered in the air enticingly. “Kate, you must give me your recipe for those pies!” Said Mrs. White.
Kate smiles and laughed lightly. “You know I can’t do that!” She said with a wink. “You’ll put me out of business.” She gave a wink as she put pie slices in the display.
Not that he ever actually had bad ones. But right now he wasn’t riddled with anxiety or annoyances. Things had been quiet and he had actually taken some time to explore the town and go out and about. Something which oddly worked up an appetite.
He grimaced a bit, not having picked up an odd job lately. He didn’t have a ton on him - but at least had a bit of money. “Time for grub,” he noted to himself - stepping inside the nearby diner. He immediately got a whiff of the pies. “Damn what smells so good?”
Kate had just dropped off a drink refill to a table when the bell on the door jingled as it was opened. Kate looked up to see a young teenager there and chuckled at his question. "That would be the pies." She said with a wink. "Take a seat anywhere that's open." She said to him with a warm smile, motioning towards the diner.
She checked in with a table real quick and then moved to grab a set of silverware rolled up in a napkin and moved over to wherever the boy had sat down. "Welcome to Rosie's." She said with the kind of charm one would expect of a diner owner. "Would you like to start of with something to drink?"
He may be a teenage boy eating by himself, but in here he would be treated with respect and kindness like everyone else.
Mike wasn’t used to it - he’d grown up in a city. Even though it had been surrounded by the forest being Colorado and all. But all the same he wasn’t really used to the hospitality or warm smaller feel this place had to it. Though he kept his track mind on his budget. Go too over it and people asked questions.
“Well if that’s any indication of the food I’m in for a treat,” he managed as he took a seat. “Thank you m’am,” he said. Minding his manners.
Water seemed like the best option. Between his sugar intake needing to be minimal with his hyperactivity and budget so... “I think a water will be OK,” he replied with a shrug. “Got any recommendations? Kind of new to town.” He chuckled. “I’ve been living off roadie food basically.”
'M'am', what a sweet, polite kid. Kate liked him already. She wrote a simple 'W' on her notepad as he asked for a water. Kate could remember people's orders by now, however, it also made people more comfortable when she wrote down their order so she did it out of habit.
"Oh ya? Well, welcome to Sweetwater! We're sure happy to have ya." She said with a grin. "Let's see. I make a mean pot pie. The cheeseburger is the Sheriff's favorite. And I'm introducing a seasonal butternut squash soup this year." She offered up her suggestions as she slipped him a menu. "You think about it a second while I grab your water." She said, giving him some room to think without feeling pressure from her.
She moved behind the counter and filled a plastic cup with ice and then water and bringing it back over to him, setting it down on the table and pulling a straw out of her apron and setting it on the table as well. "What do you think? Any questions?" She asked.
It was unusual that he was welcomed anywhere. But that was mostly because no one really went out of their way to get to know him. Especially since he was so secretive and he had to keep some of his background mysterious. “Thanks. This place seems nice,” he replied. “Definitely better than the last places I’ve- I mean we’ve been.”
He had to think on what he’d like. Honestly it all sounded good but he also had to make sure he enjoyed the food. And given you could never really go wrong with a cheeseburger. “I think I’ll stick with the classics. You can’t really go wrong with a cheeseburger,” he pointed out. “Ketchup and mustard only though, please. I can be a picky eater.” He chuckled.
If the boy would have continued with his sentence using 'I've' she wouldn't have noticed it's usage. But because he corrected himself to 'we've' it caught her attention. She didn't bring it up though. "Sweetwater is a wonderful little town. I think you'll like it here." She said with a smile, and she believed it. Who wouldn't like Sweetwater?
She jotted down his order and nodded, playfully smiling at his comment about being a picky eater. What kid wasn't at least a bit picky? In her experience anyway it was less common to find a kid who would actually eat anything. "The perfect choice. I'll get that in for you, sweetie." She said as she turned to hand in the note to the kitchen.
She waited on a few other tables and manned the cash register while the cook worked in the kitchen on all the orders. She glanced over at the kid every so often. It wasn't uncommon to see teenagers in here, but they were usually with a group. He had mentioned he was new in town so that would explain the lack of peers. But what about his parents?
The burger was finished quite quickly and Kate brought it over to the boy. "Here you go, fresh from the kitchen." She said as she set the plate down in front of him. "Can I get you anything else?"
Honestly so far it had been one of the nicer places he’d been through at least. Even the motel wasn’t anywhere near as seedy and cockroach infested as they usually were. “I hope so. So far it seems pretty cool. My uncle is uh...” he paused. “A picky guy though.” Sure good save.
Though when he’d left and she started looking his way he wasn’t so sure. Did she buy his story? Or did she just not ask? Some people did and others didn’t want to pry. He just tried to look casual and like nothing was out of the ordinary. He didn’t need to be caught while munching on food.
When the Burger came he felt his mouth water. As he’d thought about previous he hadn’t eaten in a while now and it was enough to do so. “Thank you so much, this looks amazing.” He explained. “No, no I’m fine. Just haven’t seen anything this good in a while is all.”
He hoped he wouldn’t look too crazy we started wolfing it down was all.
He was a sweet boy, polite and kind. She decided that regardless of his story of what brought him to Sweetwater that she didn’t need to know it right this second. She smiled warmly as he started devouring the burger.
“Alright, I’ll come check back in with you in a bit. Feel free to wave me down if you need anything.” She said as she left him alone with his food.
She paid little attention to him after that. Well no more then any other customer. She glanced over at his table every so often to see how his meal was coming along like she did with everyone else.
She moved behind the counter to brew a new pot of coffee, pulled another pie out of the oven- this one blueberry, and wiped off a newly emptied table for the next customer.
