Darcy wasn’t going to apologize for the choices she made when it came to his gifts, because she wasn’t sorry for it. And he’d already told her to stop with those ‘apologies’ once before. She could be taught, after all. His response to her recommendation of tossing it if he didn’t feel himself enough to go, that earned a grin as she took a drink from her eggnog, only slightly regretting the additional brandy.
“Hey, it’s not a big deal. You weren’t expecting me to arrange all this and it was more than just a little presumptuous on my part… I’m just glad I didn’t upset you.” Darcy admitted sheepishly as she sipped from her glass. There were many ways this all could have played out, but she definitely felt as though it was a calculated risk she was glad to have taken.
“Well, maybe not entirely, but I’m sure it’ll be fun to get her input.” The close bond he shared with his niece was adorable. Darcy set the glass down on her window ledge, her breath fogging up the glass window before her and she traced little stars and a moon with a soft smile. She laughed at his offer to pay her back in whiskey, then he was suddenly cut off by the station alert and was abruptly ending the call. And now there was a slight knot in her stomach at knowing he was rushing off to some emergency. Darcy looked at the phone in her hand for a moment, just for a moment before she picked up her drink and downed the rest of it.
This imprint bond was going to be the death of her. Especially if she kept trying to be in denial over it. Not because she didn’t want to have these feelings for him; but because it was terrifying to admit it. She bit her bottom lip as she continued to watch the snow fall, looking back at her phone to type up a quick text:
Be careful.
