General personality:
Murphy grew up bullied in a shitty environment with a controlling mother and a distant father and by golly, it shows. She's always been a bit odd, being the kid who stared at bugs and acted like a werewolf on the playground, and the ghost of that child still lingers. Murphy is much more striking as an adult, always a bit sultry and confident, but she still focuses on the strangeness of life and finds comfort in the macabre.
It's not uncommon for someone to feel drawn to Murphy, if not simply because she likes to keep things interesting, but because she's prone to befriending anyone who needs a friend. Murphy sniffs out the lonely without even realizing it and, while often claiming she prefers to be alone herself, seats herself with anyone who needs her. She's the type to sit in the corner with a person for hours at a party, or maybe brings in a crowd to make them feel a part of something. It's simply in her nature to care, even if her reflexes tell her to look out for herself first.
Murphy is an artist first and foremost and has collected numerous photo albums of her work. Any sort of medium interests her, but photography remains to be her favorite. Those with weak stomachs might want to be careful, however, as those albums often contain many, many pictures of roadkill and bloody knees and post-surgery scars. Also, a lot of nudes from her friends.
HISTORY
Education: High School Graduate Years in Sweetwater: 12 Family Members:
Byeong-Ho Yi - father - 49, mechanic & owner of an auto shop
Fiona Urquhart - mother - 50, deceased
General History:
Murphy's past is something she has slowly reconciled with, though it often sprouts up and manifests as anxiety in the form of anger. And more often than not, she just feels tired of reliving old memories, old traumas, and she tries to step forward rather than step back. Murphy knows that she isn't defined by her scars, but she also knows she wouldn't be who she is if it weren't for them.
If one were to ask Murphy's mother, she was the definition of a problem child. She didn't like listening to authority, always came home with dirtied dresses, often missing a sock or two. She didn't make friends, was a nuisance to her teachers, and would rather sit by herself than engage with anyone. Murphy liked to draw monsters on her schoolwork, hoarded bugs in her desk, and often gave up her lunch to stray dogs or raccoons. She was decidedly vegetarian at a young age, which only made her mother angrier, and it wasn't until after she died that Murphy became fully vegan.
When Fiona died, it was sudden. She only had a brief fight in the hospital before she succumbed, with fourteen year old Murphy holding her hand as she left. It was the first night that her dad comforted her, but she felt like she was comforting him even more. He had been merely a figure in the background of her childhood, and now became her sole provider. Murphy, despite the anger and grief, decided to protect him, too.
They packed their things and left Florida to travel across the country, away from their past, and closer to Byeong-Ho's estranged family in Colorado.
There, Murphy met a boy as she helped her dad move in. There, things begin to blur.
Most people around Sweetwater would know Murphy as a cheating slut, and this was only exaggerated by the girl's behavior post-Donnie Calloway. She embraced the image, slept around, slept with people she shouldn't have, slept with people much too old for her. Everything she could do to feel in control, she did. While she knows better than to hurt herself like she used to, that part of her remains in her core, like a broken baby bird in the nest of her heart. Murphy doesn't talk about what Donnie did to her, what his friends did to her, but he's not around anymore, either.
