[/ul] Small, but very visible scar just below her left collarbone and a few on the left side of her rib cage. PERSONALITY Dislikes: Abuse, cold weather/snow, nightclubs, high pitched noises, darkness, deep water she can't see through, heights, sexism/racism/homophobia. Strengths: Excellent judge of character (even if she's sometimes fooled), calm and rational, bold, outgoing. Weaknesses: Non-committal, can be very short tempered when tired or stressed, finds it difficult to trust/feel safe around people in her age group. General personality: At first, Nova may seem like your average 20-something year old female. She's outgoing and friendly and loves to laugh and all around have a good time. People tend to gravitate towards her magnetic personality and it seems as if she's always surrounded by good company. But unlike most people her age, Nova takes a more logical approach to life. Instead of letting emotions dictate her behavior and decision-making, she is much more rational and analytical, meaning that she often forgets to live in the moment. It also means that she has a tendency to get inside her own head and overthink, which usually causes her to be anxious and somewhat withdrawn. A bookworm by nature, it's rare to see Nova without a book in her hand. From sci-fi, to romance, and even educational reads, she finds there's always something new and exciting to discover between the covers of her book collection. In tandem with this, she also enjoys writing short stories, poems, and even psychiatric/psychological based works of her own. However, she tends to keep her own writings under wraps as she can be a bit insecure about her creative works. Despite her profession in psychiatry, Nova finds it hard to take her own advice. Even though she can read others as if they were one of her novels, it seems her own mind is a dark place of confusion of uncertainty. While she'd never show that side of her to those around her, it is always lingering and threatening to put her insecurities on display for the world to see. [/ul] HISTORY Years in Sweetwater: 0 Family Members: Parents: Richard(56) & Alana(53) Westbrooke. Both live in Chicago, Illinois. Brother: Spencer Westbrooke(28). Assumed dead, though no body or proof of death was ever found after his disappearance. General History: Nova was born the youngest of two children. Her brother, Spencer, was only 5 when she was born in the summer of '96. For a majority of her childhood, her parents lived in Phoenix, Arizona and were rather successful folk at their age. Her father worked as an EMT for a local hospital and her mother was a private school teacher. They lived a borderline luxurious lifestyle, never needing or wanting for anything. Money was never an issue, though it did lead to two very spoiled children in the end. Growing up with such a privileged lifestyle meant that Nova and her brother had more of a solid foundation to begin with than their peers. They were both honor roll students, and were easily considered part of the popular kids among their classmates. Both of them had many friends within their age group and were very outgoing and sociable, just like their parents. Nova was 11 when everything in her life seemed to take a turn for the worse. Spencer, at that point 16 years old, had fallen in with a bad crowd of people. He partied and stayed drunk well into the early morning hours, and often times skipped school to recover from his hangovers. Their parents did everything to reel their son in and get him back on the right path, but nothing ever seemed to work. By the time he was 18, Spencer had taken to using drugs on a regular basis, in tandem with his partying and drinking. His friends encouraged the behavior as they also gave into the temptations of drugs and alcohol. Spencer was a full-blown addict, though Nova at the time didn't quite understand what any of that meant. While she knew it was nothing good and that her brother was heading down a dark path, she wasn't aware of just how dangerous it was. However, she was quickly made aware when after a drug deal gone bad turned into her brother disappearing without a trace. For two years, Spencer's disappearance was talk of the town. No one had been able to find him despite an extensive and exhausting search. Assumed dead, but with no proof of dead or body to be found, Nova and her parents had no choice but to continue with their lives. Coping with the loss of Spencer took it's toll on Nova, as she and her brother had always been close and shared a special bond up until his drug and alcohol benders began. She withdrew from her friends and family and instead found comfort in her books and in music. She read anything and everything that could distract her from the ache in her heart, including self-help books that only did so much to take away her sorrows. At age 16, five years after her brother's disappearance, it seemed as if her spirit had finally healed. She was with her friends more, her academics began to improve, and she was all around the good old Nova that everyone had come to love and adore. But, it became painfully obvious that her parents feared she would take the same path as her brother. They became strict, limiting her time with friends and expecting her home immediately after school, which lead to rebelliousness from the young teen. She would sneak out late at night to meet up with friends and did partake in a few illegal activities, though she never let it get out of hand. At age 17, when she'd proved to her parents they would not lose her like they had her brother, things seemed to have a sense of normalcy, even if it was obvious that Nova still struggled with the loss of her brother. Her family moved to Chicago, Illinois after her mother was offered a better job opportunity at another private school. They thought it would be best to get away from their hometown and all the painful memories of losing Spencer. Nova started her new school, which is where she met her then boyfriend, Aaron. Her relationship with Aaron was much different than relationships she'd had in her previous school. Little did she know, she was entering a relationship with someone who was not only controlling, but also physically and mentally abusive. Her friends tried to warn her, but Nova insisted she saw the good in Aaron and that he didn't display the dangerous behaviors that everyone cautioned her about. That is, until he did. She covered her bruises and other various markings with makeup, lied to everyone with a smile on her face, saying that everything was great, when really, she was terrified. After a particularly bad argument, before things got too heated and out of control, Nova told Aaron that she thought it best to go their separate ways. Unnervingly calm about it, Aaron agreed, which only made Nova's gut twist as something didn't feel quite right about the way he responded. Immediately, Nova began to gather her things and leave, but as her hand reached the front door, Aaron grabbed a fistful of her hair and threw her into his living room table, which broke beneath the brute force combined with Nova's weight. Before she could even get her thoughts together and react, he was stood over her with a knife, his nose against hers as he yelled at her and called her profanities. He hit her, stabbed her multiple times on her left side in her rib cage and just below her collar bone. The blunt force to her head and the pain in her body rendered her unconscious. When she finally came to, she was in the hospital, her parents at her bedside. She'd been discovered in a rarely traveled alley by a pair of strangers who had just wanted a little privacy for their activities. Luckily for Nova, her body hadn't been dumped for long when she was found. Several tests and scans were done to ensure that no major organs had been punctured, and she received quite a few stitches. Doctors noted that she'd been stabbed 9 times and that she was lucky to have survived the whole ordeal. Aaron disappeared without a trace and was never held accountable for his malicious attack. After such trauma and fearing for her life with Aaron still on the loose, Nova was referred to a psychiatrist, which is where she discovered her love for psychology and helping others who had been through similar - and sometimes even worse - experiences. She graduated high school with honors and went on to go to one of the best colleges in the country to get her bachelor's degree in psychology so that she could start her psychiatric career. When she heard about the strange occurrences in Sweetwater, something in her gut told her that, that was where she needed to be. She packed her bags, said goodbye to her parents and friends, and boarded a plane with a one-way ticket, never looking back. [/ul] OOC Discord ID: Luxury#5021 Other Characters: None at the moment.
