03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
It wasn’t until she was already excitedly waiting to approach him that she realized she hadn’t explained the issues in communication. She’d have to take time to clarify these when she was able. But as for now, she watched and waited as best as she could.
It wasn’t easy. Her sense of smell was always functional, but in her wolf form she felt as if his scent completely intoxicated her and clouded her ability to focus. Her ear twitched slightly, causing her to shake her head. She perked up and paid attention as he spoke. Ears dropping slightly and giving a soft sort of pitiful little whine, head dropping to her paws. Tail tapping the ground behind her. She probably could have done a better job preparing him for the sight, but sadly she hadn’t.
Watching him, as he extended his hand, she almost immediately perked back up, finding it difficult to not rise to her full height. But she reigned in her enthusiasm for the moment and willed herself to sort of crawl toward his hand, eyes widening and tail wagging more as she smelled his hand and then encouraged him with her nose to pet her head.

Ferris slowly let his coping mechanism slip away. Her display of desperate puppy need for attention was far too endearing that it was a struggle to remind himself what she really was. An impressive apex predator who had fought off a bear with her pack. She just happened to be really cute right now. Her fur almost glowed in the last light of the sun through the trees.
It was impossible not to chuckle at her army crawling toward him to press her nose close to his hand and huff his scent in. And then she was nudging him and crawling closer. "Pets. Got it," he said, not at all finding it awkward to talk to her. He'd talked to his last dog, and while sure, they didn't talk back, he was convinced they understood. Darcy certainly would. He scratched the top of her broad head carefully, certain he would never shake the 'wild animal' vibe she gave off. He extended his other hand for her to sniff and if given the okay would move closer so he could use both hands and explore if she liked her ears scratched or chin or throat.
"You've been wanting to show me this for a while huh? Or has it just been ages since you changed?" He didn't expect an answer. "Right, you probably can't talk," he added and then grinned. "So I can give you shit and you can't give it back, eh?" He teased. Knowing her, she would give it back later. "I know you said it hurt but..." he shook his head and shivered.
It was clear from her body language that she was feeling extra playful, and barely managing to contain her excitement. Which could prove to be rather dangerous for a beast her size. Even a playful misstep could be painful if she wasn’t careful where she stepped. Still, Darcy tried her best to maintain a sense of calm as she enjoyed the attention being given to her.
She didn’t even bother sniffing his other hand, going straight to pushing it up her head with her nose, a content sigh being heaved as he spoke and pet her. She flicked an ear down, eyes watching him as he spoke. While it had been a few days since her last run, she knew this behavior was largely due to his presence. His scent absolutely drove her wild with excitement. Her hind legs aching to launch her into the woods for some running.
As he seemed to piece together her inability to verbally answer him, she gave a gentle and low growl, as if challenging him to tease her like this. But even in wolf form, there was a playful spark in her eyes. She exhaled sharply, brushing herself under his touch with a nudge to his side.

He felt just as much as he heard her sigh of content. That was something dogs did too. Take in and let out that full breath to really relax. He smiled finally. Such a strange juxtaposition of man and giant wolf pup. Maybe she was young for her age. He really couldn't figure out why she was so excited. It made him almost regret he still wasn't really himself.
Darcy's growl made him hesitate. "Easy," he said softly. Hands frozen. Clearly, he didn't quite understand the nuance of wolf communication. He caught some of the look in her eyes, which seemed a bit easier to read. And then she was trying to fit between his arm and his side and he laughed. Encouraged by her antics, he wrapped his arms around her neck and pulled her into him for a gentle hug.
While she most definitely enjoyed the attention, Darcy was still eager to move and run. So despite being perfectly content to enjoy the pets and hug, the mention of ‘hiking’ made her immediately stand to her full height, tail whipping from side to side quickly. Her abrupt standing was enough to potentially throw Ferris off balance, but she’d move herself to stop him from fumbling if necessary. Otherwise, she’d look around in the darkening woods and give a few curious inhales.
Once sure Ferris wasn’t going to fall over, Darcy would leap of to the side, about fifteen feet away, and give a playful sort of pounce to the ground with her front pas before dashing off and out of sight for a good fifteen seconds before bounding past him quickly in the other direction. Another fifteen seconds and she’d return, coming to a quick stop before nudging him in the back toward the direction of the trail.
After giving him a nudge, Darcy took another minute to get a little running in, before bounding back to Ferris. Stopping just short of knocking him off his feet, eyeing him curiously as she laid back down. Closing her golden eyes for a moment before willing herself to change back, the transition back to being her human form much easier and relieving than the transition to wolf.
Taking a moment to get her bearings back, she sat up and pulled a few twigs from her hair and cleared her throat a little before standing back up and looking around for a moment. Her hair now a mess of curls, leaves and a few twigs.

The werewolf jerking away from him did send him staggering off balance in alarm. He appreciated the catch in the growing darkness and forced himself to relax.
Watching a werewolf get the zoomies (or well, hearing) in the woods was rather comical. He still wasn't sure what to think overall, but he was at least glad that Darcy seemed excited. She seemed really happy to stretch her legs, hearing her dash back and forth. She also seemed happy to mess with him, nudging him stumbling forward a few steps. He chuckled, not sure what she wanted. "You want me to keep walking? I'm not gonna leave your clothes," he said, leaning down to pick up the pile along with her boots.
He pulled his flashlight out, having just been relying on hers for light before but now that the sky was orange and purple he needed it. But he didn't turn it on just yet since he wasn't sure where Darcy was careening off to and didn't want to blind her.
The wolf bounding back up to him only to abruptly stop was still a bit chilling. Everything in him told him to keep away. Not to run, but to back away slowly. It was a frustrating instinct, but one he knew how to handle. Just like staring down any fire, fear was a tool, one that kept you alive, one you had to harness the right way. He stared her back down, still holding her clothes and boots with one arm. "You can just...lead the way, yeah? I...need a minute before watching you...shapeshift...back..." Ferris trailed off as she began to do just that.
This transition wasn't nearly so alarming, but it still made him wince and hold his breath. It didn't just look uncomfortable, it was unnatural. Physically and mentally unsettling. He had to cover his mouth with his arm as he threw up in his mouth. He spit and gagged onto the leaves. "That's...you're fucking magnificent but that..." he breathed with a shiver, not having words for the transition. "Gonna take some getting used to." A lot of getting used to.
He offered Darcy her clothes without another word, needing another moment to collect himself again.
While she could have easily spent more time running, Darcy had invited Ferris for a hike and didn’t want to be rude by leaving him without conversation. “I should have warned you that it can be quite graphic.” She offered an apologetic look on her face as she accepted her stack of clothes from him.
Darcy dressed herself a touch more quickly than she had undressed before, feeling more than a little sorry over the effect her transformation had on Ferris. She hadn’t thought to warn him just how nausea inducing the process could be. Especially to a non-wolf. Darcy was used to it, not just because of experiencing it, but due to witnessing it even before she ever turned herself. She fastened her pants and was mostly clothed again as she leaned against a tree to put her shoes back on.
“You gonna be okay?” She asked with a raised brow as she stood back up, shirt on but not fully buttoned yet.

Ferris nodded at Darcy's apologetic words. Meanwhile he could still hear her bones snapping and her pained whines. He took the sad moment of her getting dressed again to rinse his mouth out with his water bottle.
"Uh..." he grimaced, feeling more than awkward. He wanted to be accepting and open and he really had enjoyed seeing her be herself like that, but he knew he wasn't putting on a good show of it. "Yeah?" It wasn't a lie if it was also a question he didn't know the answer to. He took a proper drink of water this time before returning the bottle to his belt loop. His grey eyes found her in the near dark. It might have started off heated between them as she undressed, but now, her shirt hung open and he didn't notice, though not because of the darkness.
He pulled himself together a bit more and stepped up to Darcy, reaching over to pull her against his chest in a hug if she let him. "You're amazing, going through that. Thanks for sharing with me something you love." He started seriously enough. Call it his usual charm mixed with wanting to ensure she knew that while his world was rocked, it wasn't only in a bad way. "You always act like a puppy that just got out of a bath?" he added, this a bit more lighthearted as he loosened his embrace and look down at her. Ferris carefully plucked a few of the bigger leaves and bits of stick he could see out of her hair. He took a breath. "Next time, let's do this when I can see too, eh?"
She honestly could understand the response, it truly made sense. How could one answer that without it being more like a question? Especially when just a few weeks ago he didn’t even know werewolves were a real, living and breathing species. She couldn’t quite imagine what that had to be like for him. One moment she was dressing herself again, and then a moment later she was being gently pulled into Ferris’ warm chest.
Darcy was more than happy to accept the embrace, smiling at his words. Unable to fight the blush that took her cheeks, she was suddenly glad for the darkness swallowing them. His inquiry about her puppy-like behavior made her chuckle. “Its been a few days since I got a decent run in or the chance to turn.” So she wasn’t technically lying, it was true. But even she knew the majority of her puppy-esque giddiness was due to him being there.
She appreciated him helping remove the grassy debris from her hair, smiling up at him softly. Next time? Those words alone almost made her want to leap in delight. That he wasn’t so put off by her transformation process that he wanted to see it again sometime was thrilling for her. “Hey, I’m game for that.” She managed out, thought still smiling ridiculously. She wrapped her arms back around him to give him another tight squeeze before exhaling and starting to finish with her shirt’s buttons.

The entire thing still didn't feel real. He knew what he saw, and he'd asked her questions and he believed that she believed her answers, but some part of the fire chief still held out hope that maybe this was all some hoax. That there was some other sane and logical explanation for 'werewolves' that fit snuggly within the seams of reality as he knew it. But that wasn't true. Instead, the tiny fragile sphere of his own existence felt infinitely smaller now. Maybe that should have been comforting.
Ferris was sleeping with a werewolf.
He had no idea how to feel about this. But he did know he didn't want to stop sleeping with her. That maybe Darcy having this extra layer beneath what was already a wonderful facade was almost more enticing? And not just the sex but her company as a friend.
The darkness hid the redness in her cheeks and his normal hearing shouldn't hear her heart beating out of her chest. But he could hear Darcy smile as she spoke. Ferris wasn't thrilled about watching her go through that brutal gauntlet of a transformation, but she had said that was normal, had talked to him about it before. He could handle it now having seen it the first time, but that didn't mean it wouldn't disturb him every time.
"Great," he said, stepping back and letting her go to finish whatever she was doing. He pulled out his flashlight and pointed it at the trail before turning it on. "Do you ever go hunting out here? As a wolf?" he asked once they got moving again.
The way his proximity made her heart race with excitement, it was quickly becoming one of her favorite feelings. But she wouldn’t go about broadcasting that. This was just something for her to simply enjoy. And just like that; he was moving again and her focus would be returned to shirt buttons. She didn’t take long to finish, and picked her pack back up to get headed on the trail.
Darcy pulled a flashlight from her pack and clicked it to life, giving a little sweep of the trail as she considered his question. “With the number of wolves in the area, I try to restrict any serious amount of hunting to the moon phases. Too much hunting and we’d have a negative impact on the entire forest’s ecosystem.” She stepped along the trail, the cold bite in the air actually felt welcomed to her warm cheeks.
“What about you, are you the hunting type?” She asked curiously, continuing with a steady pace along the trail.

Ferris ached for something, anything, to keep his mind from tunnel visioning on the sequence of Darcy's transformation. He was so focused internally that he twitched slightly as her flashlight came on and illuminated more of the trail. Why was he so jumpy? He needed to just get out of his head about it, let the memory sit before returning to it. Darcy picking up his weak conversation line was a blessing. Ferris let out another breath.
Right, full moons and two packs worth of wolves (however many that was). It was quickly becoming clear to him that being familiar with one werewolf didn't give him much insight into them or even just Darcy's life, though he did appreciate her sharing those slivers of understanding more. "Glad to have someone so aware as a ranger," he noted.
Ferris chook his head. "Not really. My...my dad took me a lot when I was younger. Taught me how to shoot," he shrugged. All those hunting trips had taught him a lot what he had used going forward, but it didn't mean he had enjoyed it. Though admittedly, he would have more if not for the specific person involved. "Mostly scared off coyotes and wolves from the sheep until basic training." He'd never shot live rounds at anyone even then. Normally, Ferris hated talking about anything remotely close to his father, but her he had mentioned his existence that was how disturbed he was.
Listening as he spoke, Darcy led the way on the trail. Occasionally directing the light off to the side to catch a glimpse of a rabbit bouncing off further into the woods. She gave a shrug. “It just made sense, finding work that would also help that pack. It’s also a bonus that I’m outdoors a lot and get to enjoy all the best trails and such.” she was fortunate to not only have work that aided her pack, but ended up being a job she loved too.
His tone seemed distracted, and she couldn’t help but wonder if he truly way ‘okay’. She nodded as he talked about hunting with his dad and about learning to shoot. “Are you a decent shot?” She asked, genuinely curious. She didn’t try to make a habit of hunting with a gun, but she had to be handy with one in emergency situations. Especially as someone carrying a gun. “And what made you want to enlist?” Darcy found herself asking suddenly, her general curiosity taking over.

Darcy's curiosity was interesting. Likely Darcy just meant to ask in general, but he couldn't help but wonder if maybe her asking about hunting was to make sure he wasn't about to haul off into the woods hunting down wolves. Which was silly considering after all they had discussed before he would need silver bullets...right. Bullets. So maybe she was asking out of a more concerned curiosity. He shrugged modestly. "I earned my marksman badge and was also told it was a shame I wasn't infantry otherwise I should be a recommended to train as a sniper," he said with a shrug. "Best case scenario though, you never see me have to use it." Ferris was confident in his abilities. More than confident. But just because he carried a gun didn't mean he felt he had to use it. "What about you? Any sort of mortal human hunting?"
The following question wasn't one he got asked all that often. "Honestly? Only a little was because I didn't know what else to do with my life. Mostly because I knew my parents would hate for me to do it." Their visions of their son's future had been of him in an office somewhere, some kind of doctor or lawyer, making lots of money and when he retired he'd take over the farm. Ferris personally hated all options. "Call me petty, cause I sure as hell wasn't patriotic." He'd come around a little since then, but even still, pissing off his parents was still something he thrived at.
Darcy enjoyed listening to his recounting of his experience, smiling a little to herself. She didn’t doubt that he was a good shot, perhaps ridiculously; she truly believed Ferris was likely amazing at anything he put his mind to. Damn, did she have it bad. “Yeah, I think I’d rather avoid being in situations that might require that level of action.” She chuckled lightly, casting a glance over her shoulder at him with a raised brow.
“Oh, no. Most of the werewolves I know won’t hunt in human form unless invited by human friends. Most prefer the rush from hunting animals as an animal.” She shrugged a little, knowing that probably sounded awful. But who would want to hunt in such a frail form when you could turn into an apex predator?
Why did she find his petty reason both hilarious and extremely relatable? “Hey, pettiness is as good enough of a reason to do anything. And look at you now; still saving lives and risking your own.” Darcy’s thought suddenly turning to just how attractive she found him currently, and how much more would seeing him in a uniform get her all giddy? She shook her head, cheeks glowing rosy as she veered off the main trail for one that was barely visible. “This path isn’t as obvious as the hiking trail, but it’ll take us directly to the tower.”
