Ferris glanced up at Darcy as she half snapped at him. He held up his free hand, palm out in a half gesture of surrender. He knew she couldn't make him. And he wasn't opposed to kicking the habit, his previous efforts had all either been half baked or half committed or foiled in some other way. She had a point about doing it after he got on his actual medication. If he did. He really liked the idea of being on his meds and things just working, but the process of getting there...usually Ferris was the sort to like the journey but in this specific instance, he would much rather be at the destination already.
He closed the door, hanging up this jacket on the hooks and setting the cigarette packs on the table before flopping down on the couch. He stretched out with a groan and stared up at the ceiling, aware Darcy hadn't joined him. Which he expected after he fucked up the mood. He didn't want that to be the case however and even still didn't want her to leave. He lay there looking at his watch and wondering what the fuck he was supposed to say to her. He'd invited Darcy over because he needed the company. Just to have someone there. And Darcy was more than just 'someone', she was a friend. A trusted someone. Talking, about anything, had been a bonus. Her soft question only barely reached him.
"I don't know," he admitted to the ceiling. He tried to figure out how to phrase his question and every way felt like he was either telling her to leave or annoyed and he hated it. He took a deep breath and rubbed his hands over his face. He fought down a cough, not sure if that was the smoke or from being out in the cold. "Why did you come over?" he asked, the question lacking emphasis.
Granted she knew she wasn’t making this any easier to get back to normal conversation instead of the awkwardness, but she couldn’t help it. Darcy was mentally kicking herself for not just pulling herself together and being there for him. His response made her give a slight nod, but his question got her to look back over to him.
“Because I enjoy spending time with you.” She said with a shrug, walking over the couch she kicked off her shoes and joined him on the couch, her head back on his chest as she hugged him. “I didn’t mean to make things weird… I’m sorry.” Darcy apologized softly, reaching her hand up to gently brush along his jaw.

Meanwhile Ferris hadn't bothered to take off his boots. He'd wiped them on the mat but they currently hung off the side of the couch, as he was at least aware enough to not get the fabric soaked and muddy. He didn't hear her approach until he felt the weight of the couch shift, looking down at Darcy as she settled on top of him. He moved his arm from his chest so she cold be more comfortable, though he couldn't help but be a bit confused. Sure, she said she enjoyed spending time with him and he knew she was attracted to him but he wasn't mentally prepared for her to climb on top of him.
Normally, that would have been sexy as fuck. But rather annoyingly, despite wanting to be in the mood, he struggled to care beyond the small kick of having her warm body pressed against his. Ferris closed his eyes. He hummed softly as she stroked his stubble. At least this apologize she meant. "No," he grumbled, settling his arm around Darcy. "It's just...not something I can talk about like this. It...hurt a lot." He paused, still struggling to figure out what he wanted to say. "I don't mind sharing, but...not right now." He said quietly, tone regretful and almost apologetic.
The closeness helped her feel a lot better, but this wasn’t about her. She was here for him. And thankfully he didn’t seem to mind her joining him, even humming softly at her touch and putting his arm around her.
“I didn’t realize how hard that one might be to talk about.” That was true, namely because Darcy had never been that seriously committed to anyone. She thought she could have come close, but pack politics and poor timing seemed to save her from the heartache. She hugged him a little tighter and looked up at his face.
“We don’t have to talk about it Ferris, you don’t owe me any answers. And if it just upsets you, I don’t want that… it’s the farthest thing from what I want.” She admitted softly against his chest, enjoying how perfectly she seemed to fit against him.

"How could you?" he replied with a gentle rhetorical question. Ferris grunted faintly at the sudden hug, offering a small sad smile to ensure she knew he wasn't uncomfortable. His emotions were not her responsibility. "It's alright, didn't mean to scare you." It wasn't quite an apology, but he did want her to know he felt bad about ruining her momentum. He hadn't minded most of the other questions. And it wasn't as if they really knew each other that well to know what the other had been through.
Ferris sighed. He wasn't really sure what to say. Part of him did want to share, but another part of him knew that wasn't going to end well. Not right now. Any more depressed and he was apt to do something stupid. Just another reason he was really glad Darcy had said yes to coming over.
"You asking doesn't upset me, Darcy. You are allowed to ask whatever you want," he reassured. "I...I'm really glad you came over," he said earnestly. There wasn't a good way to tell a friend you were thinking of doing something terrible to yourself but wanted them to hang out and be miserable with you instead because at least then you were alive. Ferris knew he would get over it. Probably not tomorrow, which meant work was doing to be painful, but at least he would have things to do and people to be around. At least when Cisco was around the man made him feel things.
He was quiet again and then looked down at her, moving his hand up to pet her unruly curls. "What's your favorite movie?" Because they sorely needed something going on in the background and he wanted to get to know her better.
It wasn’t his fault that the mood shifted, Darcy was the one who needed to think twice about just how difficult it might be for him to talk about. Especially on a day where he already was struggling. She was comforted by the calm and steady beating of his heart mixed with the rise and fall of his chest.
When he admitted he was really glad she came over, she smiled softly. More than happy to be there, but feeling especially glad he was comfortable enough to call and invite her over when he was having a rough day. “And I’m really glad you called, even if it doesn’t feel like it, that’s progress.” She said with a light smile.
A pleasant shiver ran up her spine when she felt his hand in her hair, a small rosy tint to her cheeks. And then he was asking about her favorite movie, and Darcy couldn’t help but give a gentle chuckle turning her head up slightly to look at his face. “Oh gosh, that’s a tough one. I guess you’d eventually find this out, I’m kind of a sucker for a good musical.” She couldn’t help but playfully hide her face against his chest for a moment as she chuckled at herself. Being in a werewolf pack, there wasn’t really a way to keep them from finding out your movie preferences when everyone could hear what their neighbors were watching if they wanted.
“If I had to pick a favorite, I would probably have to stick with a classic; The Phantom of the Opera.”

Between the nicotine and having a warm comforting body pressed against him, he was finally starting to feel a little less hopeless. As terrifying as it had been to admit, as worried as he was to have yet another person walk out on him, Ferris was glad he had shared with Darcy. She couldn't possibly understand how much progress this was for him. Going from no one to one person in five years. It was massive.
He felt her shiver slightly and at first, worried he had done something. But he squashed the feeling, knowing a lot of that was just the stress and anxiety of his depression trying to make everything bad. He raised an eyebrow as her initial reaction, wondering what movie. And then he smiled faintly at her embarrassment and how she pressed her face against his chest.
"You say that like musicals are a bad thing," he chided with some light fake offense. He liked musicals. Not all of them, but there were some very nice musicals with good compositions and performances out there. "Your pack give you a hard time about that, eh?"
He wasn't sure she would admit to a favorite and was prepared to start listing musicals he liked until she came out and said it. He grinned. "I know it doesn't feel like it, Darcy, but you've made a lot of progress," he teased. It was a little forced, Ferris clearly knew how to put on a good face when he wanted to.
"Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum. Andrew Llyod Webber is a musical wizard," he said. "Solid choice." He was a massive movie buff. Especially when it came to classics or films with great soundtracks. Hilariously, he was much better with actor names than people he really knew. But he just as often could list every film someone was in and never come up with their name. "Decent feel good film," he added. Mostly because the songs were just good.
“It’s not a bad thing, but I do catch a lot of grief from pack members. I guess it’s funny to them because I don’t look like someone who enjoys musicals.” Whatever that meant, she wasn’t aware of there being a specific look one had to have to enjoy musicals. Or maybe it was simply because she generally was listening to classic rock or country music, drove a classic truck and spent most of her time in the woods.
She smiled and poked his chest at the teasing. While it didn’t seem fully there, she did appreciate the effort. It shows he cared enough to try. “Oooh, impressive. You know your stuff.” Darcy said with a smile, propping up her head to look at him better. Why was his knowledge on the details such an attractive thing?
“What’s your favorite musical?” She asked curiously, enjoying that they were back to pleasant conversation once more, but also the fact that she was enjoying the physical contact.

"Next time they diss your interest in musical, show them Sweeney Todd," he suggested. It perhaps wasn't on his list of favorite or best musicals, but it was a vastly different one. He caught himself. "Uh, not because of the punchline, just...okay maybe because of it," he allowed. He wasn't trying to suggest the eating of people had anything to do with werewolves. Mostly he meant it because it was a very different creepy vibe from most musicals. He just thought that might change a few outlooks and help Darcy feel less embarrassed over enjoying a passion.
It was all the more impressive because what the hell else was Emmy Rossum in? Shameless. And a bunch of things no one has ever heard of. So yeah, very impressive. Ferris, on the other hand, made a modest noise, passing it off as nothing. He gestured to the wall with stylized movie posters, things like Gladiator, Top Gun, Clue, Back to the Future, and more. "I kinda like films," he noted with a faint smile.
Ferris would not consider himself someone who went out of their way for musicals, but he did enjoy a few of them. A favorite was harder. Phantom was a default choice, but he also felt that was a cop out. "I typically prefer jukebox musicals. Moulin Rouge, Choir of Man. You'd appreciate that one." He thought another moment, glad to be lost in a topic that wasn't focused on him. "But if you want something more classic...Company."
"You wanna watch something?" The discussion was nice, but the original reason he had asked was to put something on and get lost in that. And holding her. That helped a lot too.
“Oh perfect, because then they’ll think I’m threatening to eat them!” She laughed this time, shaking her head against him as she did. They would definitely take it as a threat. Perhaps it was because she kept so much to herself, but a lot of her pack members found her intimidating. Which surprised her, because in human form she never would peg herself that way.
“That’s awesome, I’ll spend half the movie trying to remember where I’ve seen an actor before and end up having to google it.” Darcy needed to expand her movie collection, but she’d only recently started adding in book shelves and things like that to her home. Sweetwater was the most time she’d spent in one place, so she was used to traveling a bit lighter. Now she actually had a home she was actually decorating and such.
“Oooh, Moulin Rouge is a good one, I’ve heard good things about Choir of Men, it’s on my list of ones I’d like to see.” Darcy added, then raised a brow as he continued. “Very nice choice, it’s a classic for a reason.”
Darcy nodded enthusiastically. “Sure, what’d you have in mind?”

That wasn't exactly what he had in mind, but Ferris couldn't tell if she was joking or not. It left him feeling a little awkward, but unsure how to explain. Musicals weren't for everyone he supposed.
"But I'm shit at remembering names of people in real life," he pointed out. He wasn't sure why movies were any different. He saw residents of Sweetwater more often than he watched films these days. Just one of those bits of useless knowledge that his brain soaked up and he couldn't figure out why or direct it to focus on something else more helpful.
The firefighter didn't have a large movie collection. The entertainment console under his large tv housed a small collection, but most of those were gifts. His sister usually sent him movies, either new ones she liked and wanted to ensure he watched, or ones they had enjoyed when they were younger. Most of his viewing he used through streaming services, as between himself and his sister, they had most available.
His choices might be good, but they weren't films with positive vibes. Well, one was, but it was entirely live performance at the moment. He half sat up to find the remote on the coffee table and turn on the tv. "Phantom, unless you pick something else." Because he didn't have a better idea and if he didn't pick something, he'd end up debating forever because he didn't honestly feel like anything. Much like the food conversation.
“I should probably also mention that while some very old packs might have cannibalistic ideals, I’ve never eaten anybody… I mean, unless we’re talking about the ‘fun’ form of eating out.” She laughed at her own poor attempt at a joke, not at all finding it odd to joke about times she’d been intimate with other women. It was just part of her approach for not having any serious attachments.
“Well, more actors names are printed on the case multiple times and even displayed at the end of the movie, occasionally during opening credits too. Maybe it’s a combination of seeing their names in print multiple times.” She offered with a slight shrug.
Darcy sat up a little more and pulled her sweater off, grey t-shirt staying in place as she laid the sweater over the back on the couch. She didn’t feel the need to explain her removal of the sweater, not wanting to draw any specific attention to it. Just laying back down on his chest, now comfortable once again. She’d gotten a bit warm with the sweater, but now she could just enjoy being against him. “I’m perfectly content with Phantom of the Opera.”

Ferris grew progressively more uncomfortable as Darcy attempted to explain that cannibalism was a thing werewolves sometimes did. And then only after said she'd never eaten anyone. He blinked. "I didn't...you don't..." He couldn't quite figure out how to voice his amused discomfort. He wasn't bothered enough to give up her warmth lying against him. "Friends don't assume friends have ever eaten anyone, you know?" he snorted. Her terrible sexual innuendo pun therefore took a moment to register, at which point her rolled his eyes. "You're terrible," he chuckled. Knowing she had been with women before was new information but he thought she might have said something before that implied it. It certainly fit and he didn't care who she liked or had been with. That wasn't his business. Though he was always a little jealous of people who managed to be comfortable with their sexuality.
She sat up to pull off her sweater and Ferris just watched her move, finally kicking his boots off. He wanted so badly for a distraction. A movie and closeness were nice and all, but had he the mental energy, he would have liked a lot more. But even the way the werewolf moved and stretched and seeing the shape of her breasts more defined through just her shirt and then having her press back against him didn't garner much response. Still, he ran a hand over her side and back once she laid down again.
He turned his attention to the tv, navigating through HBO to find the movie and start it. "You wanna lay the other way?" He suggested. So she could watch the tv and not just him. He shifted slightly, making space for her to snuggle between the back of the couch and him, still very keen to have his arms around her and her body as close as possible. Whether something happened or not, he wanted to touch her. Even going so far as to slide his hand up the back of her shirt.
“Hey, I just wanted to make sure you knew. I might like to use my teeth, but only playfully.” She admitted with a wink, cheeks a little rosier. Thankfully Darcy had never had any run ins with those issues within a pack. He picked up on her awful joke and she couldn’t help but chuckle a little at her own amusement. “I am, but I think you’re okay with that.”
When she laid back down, his hand running over her side and back made Darcy have to take a steadying breath. No, she told herself, not wanting to feel like she was taking advantage of Ferris in a rough day. And she was going to be resigned to just enjoying his closeness, she could control herself. Darcy was even going to turn to her other side so she could face the tv. But then his hand was under her shirt, brushing against the soft and sensitive skin on her back.
Whatever control she thought she could exercise melted at his touch and instead she found herself running her fingers along his jaw before leaning up to kiss him. It’s wasn’t overly aggressive, but soft and sweet. “Why does your touch feel so good?” She whispered as she placed a few soft kisses again his neck.
Post by Ferris Felwinter on Dec 11, 2023 2:08:31 GMT
"Terrible," he groaned again, but softer this time and it was much harder to distinguish if he was talking about Darcy or himself. But probably himself because she was right, he was okay with her being 'terrible.' He was more than okay with it.
While she melted into his touch, Ferris was doing his damnedest to relax and watch the movie. He was tempted to close his eyes and just listen, since his favorite part was the musical score after all. He wondered if there was an acoustic arrangement for the main theme. Probably. He'd seen an electric guitar one and while that was his preference, he played less often. Mostly out of concern for being a good neighbor. He felt her start to move and then stop, her touch against his jaw making him look down at her in time to be surprised by her lips on his.
This wasn't what he had invited her over for. The deeper affection wasn't unwelcome, but he felt awkward about his lack of interest. Especially when he wanted to be interested. Ferris smiled and hummed softly at her further kisses. He was at least glad Darcy enjoyed the contact as much as he wanted to. Ferris rubbed his thumb in small circles over her skin. "It's called physical chemistry." Not that they didn't have other chemistry too.
