Spring had come and gone like a blur for Gemma, who had been offered the role of Sheriff on a permanent basis. And so many things had happened…
Kenna moved to town, and it was really nice, getting to have a reminder of her childhood best friend even after her passing. She enjoyed getting to have Kenna over occasionally, more often on nights when Harland was busy at the bar. Not to mention, it was nice to have someone to relax with and go get her nails done with. She was sweet, and Gemma was glad she seemed to enjoy time spent with her.
Not to mention, she and Harland had finally stopped dancing around their feelings and actually admitted to one another how they felt. Which had resulted in some rather… intensely passionate moments together. And honestly, Gemma was so glad she had waited to share that part of herself with anyone, because she was
his. Heart, body and soul; Gemma belonged to Harland.
Imagine her relief in knowing what it felt like to share a mutual imprint bond with her best friend.
Of course, sharing this with the pack had led to plenty of playful teasing, saying it was ‘about damn time’ and such. Gemma couldn’t have agreed more, and only wished she had told him her feelings sooner so she could have enjoyed being his longer.
And then she got the permanent position as the Sheriff at work, and things started to feel so very real for her.
Especially when they were finally getting to enjoy the summer weather and Gemma was suddenly
very aware that she was late.
Like,
really late.
As someone who hadn’t been sexually active until recently, the idea of birth control never crossed her mind. But she also knew that they hadn’t quite talked about… things like this.
But sure enough, Gemma was looking at the paperwork she had received detailing her bloodwork she had done for her physical for work, and right there in black ink the word ‘Pregnant’ was marked on the page, along with a notation about her needing to schedule an appointment with an OB.
Gemma sank into her desk chair with quite a mixture of emotions.
Of course, she had always wanted children, and the idea of having Harland’s child only made her want to shout with joy… but this wasn’t just about her.
Harland had only just gotten used to being someone’s dad, and they hadn’t talked about where either of them stood on the ‘starting a family’ front. They had only just gotten together…
Would he be upset?
Of course, thinking about this would only stress her out. Besides, wouldn’t she have been able to hear-
Gemma’s breath caught in her chest as she focused that werewolf hearing of hers, and sure enough; there was a faster, smaller heart beat racing inside her aside from her own.
Gemma left work almost immediately, not quite sure where she was going, but found herself trying to figure out how to tell Harland. Had this been something they’d discussed previously, she might have set up some sort of cute way to let him find out.
But they hadn’t talked about more kids. There was Kenna to consider too. Gemma wasn’t afraid to admit that she loved the girl and would do anything to make sure she knew she was always there for her.
fingers strummed on the steering wheel of her jeeps as she sat in the parking lot for Purgatory, Harland’s truck was outside and she could easily pick up his scent, even without getting out of her vehicle.
She ran a hand through her blonde hair, finally exhaling slowly and easily out of her jeep.
There was no reason to stress and worry, she just needed to tell him and they’d go from there. Gemma tried her best to not look overly concerned as she made her way into the bar, Harland wasn’t out front, but in his office.
Good, they’d be able to speak more freely.
She couldn’t help the smile that pulled across her lips at the sight of him.
“Hey handsome, have you got a minute?” She leaned against the doorframe, trying not to look quite as worried as she felt.
