03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
Kate wrapped her arms around herself as she stood there looking at him, tears fell onto her cheeks. She nodded, too many times, biting her lip to keep herself from started to cry more vocally. She tugged her sleeve down over her hand and wiped the tears with the back of her hand, makeup coloring the fabric.
She couldn't get out any words without feeling her voice crack so she just leaned her back against the wall and tried to keep herself from breaking down. Maybe this was all just jealous because her little sister was having a baby. Maybe she'd get over it. Maybe not.
"Kate." He didn't say it as gently as he meant to, so he tried again. "Kate." That was better. She made such a pitiful (but pretty) picture leaned against the wall, wiping her tears.
"You went there." If his words were supposed to make things better they surely wouldn't. "I don't know why you had to bring any of this up. It's like this isn't enough for you anymore." He moved closer to her and would put his hands on her arms if she let him.
Kate turned her head, touching her nose to her shoulder briefly as he stood in front of her and put his hands on her arms. She looked up at him. His question broke her heart. She titled her head forward so the top of her forehead was against his chest, her arms still held around herself.
"I don't really have you." she said in a shuddered whisper.
She leaned back again and wiped her cheeks once more. "I'm sorry, it's just the news about my sister. Just...took me by surprise I guess. I'm sure I'll feel better in the morning."
Brodie didn't know how to respond to that. She didn't have him? By whose standards? A magazine that told her that a man who truly loved her would marry her? It was the twenty-first century. Tradition in America was changing. Why couldn't she be okay with that? Admittedly, he didn't like not being able to hold her hand as they walked down the street, but who cared? The secrecy created little inconveniences, but they still had each other. He felt like that should have been enough.
"Okay." Was all he said, his voice quiet. He stepped away, letting her arms go, and said, "I'll be in my office for a little while longer." His office was actually a little sun room-turned-office. He waited to see what she would say or where she would go before heading there.
She nodded at his words and after a short pause she stood on her tip toes and kissed him on the lips if he let her. She gave him a small smile. "Don't stay up too late." She told him, common words of guidance from her. "Good night Brodie."
She started to move towards her room but paused on her way there and looked back over to him. "I love you." She said softly, pausing long enough to give him a chance to respond if he wanted to, before heading to her room.
She was confusing. So terribly, terribly confusing. What did she want? He couldn't tell. Marriage? Really? Then why was she kissing him? Why was she telling him that she loved him? She was playing a game, he felt, and he wasn't liking it. Was she trying to create problems between them? To what end? What had bringing up all that just done for them? Absolutely nothing. It was hurting them. It was hurting him.
"I love you too." He told her, though his tone held a question, or perhaps the hurt he was feeling.
He went to his office but didn't work. He also stayed up too late.
It took Kate a long time to fall asleep. She contemplated going back to Brodie several times but her heart was hurting too much. Not being able to stay asleep she ended up awake very early and started packing a bag deciding maybe it would be good to stay with a friend for a couple of days. Even the act of packing was painful but she couldn't be stuck in this situation forever. If Brodie couldn't give her what she felt she needed...she couldn't even finish the thought.
