The cream colored sweater was a more than a touch low-cut, but she was a librarian. And it wasn’t as if her boss was capable of firing her. She was much too persuasive for that. Hal wasn’t above abusing her abilities as a Siren. She didn’t look at it as ‘abusing’ something, being that she was born to use it to benefit herself after all. And humans were so much fun to play with. Especially the ones who took a touch more work than usual. It wasn’t often, but sometimes she had to actually sing, which always made her ache for the ocean and a good swim with her powerful tail.
She smiled at his compliment, giving an appreciative nod of her head, but she still felt like she could do better. Picking through the items in the dryer, she paused humming at his question. Halah’s apartment featured quite a few decorative mirrors. Mostly because she liked being able to see most of her apartment from wherever she stood, partly because she was a touch conceited and enjoyed seeing herself, but also because she knew most people couldn’t resist watching if she decided to change while visible from a mirror or even in person.
Whether or not Ferris was watching this time, she did pull off the cream colored sweater to make a few adjustments to the straps, having stepped into her bathroom this time but left the door open. “Both please, two parts cream one part sugar.” She called out as she stepped into the hall and pulled the sweater back on. In most cases she might have returned to the kitchen without a shirt on, she was trying to gently test the waters. Afterall, she didn’t know how hard she’d have to try to get him to give into her… powers of suggestion.
“If I wear my black coat I think I should be warm enough, maybe a scarf?” She asked with a quirked brow, leaning against the corner of the wall leading into the hallway.

Ferris wasn't beyond most humans. He was very much mortal, and the mirrors made it difficult not to see Halah change. Try as he might to keep her reflection in his peripheral vision, knowing the woman behind him was removing her shirt, it was hard not to watch. For a few seconds. Coffee. Focus. Stop admiring her sharp shoulders and elegant neck and focus on the coffee. Better yet, he should leave. What had possessed him to come in here?
When she finished and stood in the hall clothed again, he relaxed slightly. Her words gave him something to do with his hands, opening the fridge and looking for creamer and then filing one cup with her requested amounts of that and sugar. Once the pot finished, he poured the hot black liquid into both cups and searched the drawers in the kitchen for a spoon to help mix her cream and sugar properly.
"Black coat?" he asked, confused. Had she been wearing that before? Maybe, but he honestly couldn't remember. He picked up the coffee mugs and turn to look back at her then, appraising her new outfit. For warm and cold weather trail. That's all. "Maybe?" he offered unhelpfully, holding out her mug.

With all the mirrors, Hal was very aware he had indeed seen her, so he was a red blooded man after all. Once standing before him again, she gladly accepted the mug with a smile. “Thank-you, Ferris.” She said softly with a nod, blowing on the hot beverage for a moment before giving the spoon a stir to help blend the sugar and cream with the hot coffee.
She gave the man another once over and fought to his her grin and obvious interest behind her mug as she took a sip. “So, tell me Ferris; what do you like to do for fun?” She asked, her tone only slightly melodic, testing the metaphorical waters. Hal was curious to know just how much effort it would take to get through with Ferris. West, whom she had met at the gallery, was definitely her new favorite plaything; she wasn’t shy about enjoying as much fun or as many people as she saw fit. And this town was certainly filled with attractive men.

Halah saying his name like that tugged at something in him. She made it impossibly easy and normal to look at her and part of him enjoyed it. The other part just felt...strange.
He opened his mouth to answer, prepared to explain his love of music and movies and sex and weed. But only one of those things was something he shared with most people. One of them wasn't something to just confess to a stranger and the other he hadn't done in ages so why when she asked it came to mind, he didn't know. Had he had a lot of fun smoking? Immensely. But he hadn't in years. Even now, living somewhere it was generally legal, he avoided it. Because his responsibility as fire chief usually meant he was too busy. And because that high had to come down eventually and he was terrified of that rollercoaster.
Even music, he didn't just share. Not because he was trying to be modest or was shy about his skills but because it was one of his regrets in life. Only real friends or other musicians got to know he played guitar like a lead guitarist.
"I watch a lot of movies and work mostly, he said with a shrug, taking a sip of coffee. He swallowed it and somehow managed not to chok or wince. He hated coffee. "What about you?" He knew better than to ask questions he didn't want to know the answers to but he couldn't stop himself.

Dark eyes watched him curiously as she took a slow sip of her coffee, the beverage sweetened just enough without taking away from the flavor of the coffee itself. She had a French Roast that she rather enjoyed most mornings. That is, if she hadn’t diced to stop a buy a coffee from a the Nook on her way into work. She watched as he opened his mouth to answer, but seemed to be sifting through his thoughts. Interesting. He’d likely require a bit more than just that ‘melodic’ tone she used when she could.
Oh, this was going to be quite fun. Hal preferred when she was presented with a bit more of a challenge. She gave a smile that was almost too sweet, clearly something else going on behind the scenes. “Oh, I spend a lot of time at the library. I like the gallery in town, and when the weather is nicer I like taking my car out for drives.” She sighed a little, she didn’t drive her own car much in this weather, as she liked to baby it.
“In all that wonderful information you shared, I didn’t hear you mention a girlfriend…” She clearly eyed him from over her cup of coffee and quirked a brow. “Certainly an attractive man like you isn’t single.” Hal teased with a wink, another slow sip of her coffee, then gently cleared her throat, as she hummed a little to warm those vocal cords. “Tell me a little about yourself, Ferris.” She her tone a bit more sing-song as she hummed, another sip of the coffee as those dark brown eyes watched him.

Her mentions of reading, physical art, driving her car...Ferris could identify with exactly none of these things. But he found himself nodding as if it was the most engaging conversation he had had in a while. Which perhaps the judgement that it was not was a bit harsh. She'd certainly proved she was more of a person than he had in the little he had provided her. So instead of feeling awkward about why he was still here, he felt guilty that he was being a terrible conversation partner.
For a moment. And then he recalled he actually was that way on purpose sometimes. To make people leave him alone. Only his close friends got him to be more engaging on a good day and Halah and he had just met not fifteen minutes ago. Why-
She distracted him again with a very personal question. One he didn't know the best answer to for a few reasons. Namely because he'd been on a date recently with the silvery blonde head nurse. But he was pretty sure that last he checked, one date did not make him committed. Though he was hesitantly hopeful that maybe there would be a second. That maybe they would talk about something besides just the next date. But it was too soon for that. Ferris took another drink of coffee. "He certainly can be."
He attempted to keep his usual frosty demeanor but there was something about talking to the woman that made that difficult. The open-ended question begged him for an answer. It made him uncomfortable. "I'm a firefighter," that much was obvious, she knew that already. "I've lived here for five years. Lived in Texas and Vancouver before that." Ferris was certain he could run a seminar on how to talk about oneself without talking about oneself. And yet still, something nagged at him to answer her question. To really answer it. "I joined the military out of high school to get away from home and confusing high school relationships, met the woman I thought I would marry only to have her walk out on me after-" he stopped himself. Explaining why to a total stranger, explaining the woman he thought was the love of his life had left him was a sob story that she didn't need. Hell, even his friends didn't need it. "I've always wanted to be a lead guitarist for a rock band," he said instead. Maybe one day. It was a good thing to have dreams, right?

While she fully expected him to respond that he indeed had a girlfriend or possibly something more serious, she was told he was indeed single. She found that quite interesting. Hal wouldn’t have pegged him as being the typical ‘player’, he didn’t give off that vibe. Color her curious. ”Forgive me if I seem surprised, I definitely thought you were taken.” she gave a half shrug, but her amused smile didn’t falter from the other side of her coffee mug.
Okay, so maybe she liked causing chaos and preferred to toy with people who had attachments, she worked in a library. It was quiet and got boring, and spicing her day up with some drama amongst humans was always entertaining. So, she had a bit of a twisted sense of humor. But that amusement wasn’t limited to drama either humans. She enjoyed pushing her luck with vampires too. Now that was a dangerous game.
Hal finished her coffee and rinsed the cup in the sink as she listened to him give such a quick rundown of himself, and she couldn’t help but smile. He seemed to be more reactive to her second effort, interesting. She liked the strong minded ones, it made it all so much more entertaining. “Ooh, see? You’re so much more fascinating than you let on.” She teased, gently brushing her fingertips against his chest as she turned and leaned against the counter. Perfectly arched brow raised in curiosity.
“Lead guitarist for a rock band? Now that would be fun, though not near as heroic as rushing in to put out fires.” Hal chuckled a little, shaking her head and humming again. “And what, no romantic relationships or attachments since being here?”

Ferris opened his mouth to reply that he wasn't taken currently but he had in fact had a long-time live-in fiancé years ago, but that was half of what he had cut off before. Why he felt so possessed to say as much he didn't understand. The man felt uncharacteristically defensive of her disappointment that he was single. As if he had to justify himself to her that he was, in fact, someone other women found worthy of their time and effort and that he could reciprocate a loving and positive relationship. Except that maybe he wasn't. Murphy had left him, after all. It wasn't part of his life he was proud of. His shoulders dropped and he took another sip of coffee to try and distract from his failure to hold any sort of normal conversation.
"I don't-" and then her fingers brushed against his shirt and he caught his breath. He half turned as she moved passed him into the little kitchen. He knew what she was doing. While he didn't think of himself as desperate, especially not now, he couldn't help but watch her. Ferris cleared his throat and looked away from where she leaned against her counter with those beautiful sharp eyebrows directed at him. "I don't think I'm that interesting," he mumbled lamely.
Only for her to latch onto the guitarist bit as a distraction. He shrugged. "Yeah, pretty selfish of me," he mumbled awkwardly as she casually ruffled his feathers the wrong direction. He supposed she was trying to compliment him on his job in emergency services, but it felt more like she was accusing him for having wanted to do something else. He set down his half full coffee mug on the counter next to her, intending to step back and excuse himself when she started humming and returned to the topic of his personal life. He took a step back out of her bubble.
"I..." He needed to go. That was what he was trying to say. What he needed to say. But something once again made him want to answer. Really answer. He slid one hand into his pocket and ran his other hand through his hair. "Since being here I've...it's been five years, and I went on my first date. And also have a, uh..." he managed to stop himself again, rubbing his hand over his face. "Sorry, I don't...I should go..." he said, hesitating before he turned. He didn't feel ill, at least physically. But he felt something. Some other point about his depression maybe?

Why exactly, she took so much enjoyment toying with humans, she’d chalk that up to the environment she was raised in. Her mother took a lot of pleasure in manipulating people and had been sure to teach all of her best tips and tricks to Hal. So when it appeared that Ferris was trying to make an exit, she couldn’t help but smile as she hummed softly to sort of warm up her voice.
“But why, you don’t want to leave.” Her words were more accurately described as being song rather than spoken. Her melodic tone soft and smooth, as she stepped forward and took hold of one of his hands. Those dark eyes full of mischief and her speaking channeling much more of her ability than she typically used on humans. She liked that he required a touch more effort.
“You want to stay here and see the lingerie bodysuit I’m wearing under all this… you want to undress me and act on those dark thoughts we all push away.” she was singing now, sounding a bit like a dirty or erotic musical as she pulled herself closer to him, gently sort of kissing her way along his jaw to his ear. “You… want… me.”

Ferris turned and took a step back to the door, reaching out for the handle. Even as she told him he didn't want to leave, her voice almost songlike, he still managed to get his hand all the way around the handle. But he couldn't move from there. His awkward, slightly desperate desire to extract himself from this situation suddenly died. The will to make his feet move vanished. It was almost as though he had forgotten how door handles worked. Ferris stared down at his hand, watching as Halah took it and pulled he back around to her.
It was a strange feeling. On one hand, they were strangers and he was in her apartment and he didn't want anything from her or with her. But on the other, those little thoughts of how stunning she looked in the mirror and those glimpses of bare skin as she changed were exciting. He shouldn't be ashamed of that. In fact he should want her more. He should stay here and see the lingerie bodysuit she was wearing. It wasn't just okay to want to undress her, but to do it, to act on his dark desires. His eyes shifted along her hand on his, up her arm, to those dark alluring eyes that promised to show him terrible, wonderful acts of debauchery. He wanted her. From the way Halah leaned close and pressed her lips to his jaw, she wanted him too.
Ferris turned his head so his lips met hers, tasting her desire. He took her hip in one hand and turned her, pushing her against the closet door and pressing their bodies close as he pressed his tongue between her lips and reached down to the bottom of her sweater. His fingers hesitated holding the fabric though when he ought to be ripping it up over her head. Part of him in shock over what he was doing.

This was not her first time working with someone who had a touch of a stubborn will. But the way his hand halted and he no longer seemed committed to leaving let her know she was getting there. Especially when he was turned back toward her, his eyes taking her in. Why did she love this part? When they were putty in her hands?
When he turned his face to capture her lips with his, Hal couldn’t help but smile and hum softly. Especially as he pressed her against the closet door and pressed his body against hers, she gladly gave his tongue access to her own and would have kissed him more deeply, if she didn’t notice his pause. The hesitation. It meant she wasn’t fully in that mind of his just yet, oh but she would be. Hal was determined, if anything.
“Ferris, you want this.” She sang softly against his lips, kissing her way to his ear. “You need this… need me.” Her melodic words enticing him back into her.

Ferris felt any sense of sanity slipping away from him. He didn't- he wanted this. He could feel it like a cold snake wrapping around his waist and squeezing ever so slightly tighter and tighter. But it was also a soft, pleasant touch. His fingers tightened on her sweater and he lifted it up over her head. He needed her. Needed to take the woman in front of him, to touch and taste her. This wasn't just a base desire or a fleeting fancy, this need made him ache inside. Regardless of whether two minutes ago he had even thought he could have his way with this woman, something in her melodic tone made that a very real physical ability.
"I need you, Halah," he heard himself say, tone heavy and gruff. He tossed her sweater to the floor, one hand reaching up to cup her cheek and caress her soft cheekbones and lips before slowly trailing down over her throat. Ferris leaned in to kiss her once more, their lips closing together once again sealing her spell.

To say she wasn’t at all surprised when his grip on her sweater tightened once again and he pulled it off over her head. “That’s right Ferris, I want you to give in to all those thoughts you had when you caught glimpses of me changing.” She hummed softly again as he caressed her cheek and trailed kisses along her neck.
Hal’s breath caught in her chest as he kissed her lips again, her own hands moving to pull his coat and shirt off, tossing them to the side. She was more than ready to have some fun, not longer concerned about making it to work on time. It wasn’t as if they’d fire her, she had her boss wrapped around her little finger too.
“Mmm, don’t hold back with me Ferris.” She whispered against his ear, kissing her way down his neck, and then licking back up to stop for a deep kiss to her lips. Yeah, she needed this too. She’d been behaving too much lately and she needed to get laid.

Halah looked beyond stunning in that lingerie. Ferris hand his hands up her sides, pulling away as she spoke to admire her body. "You set up all those mirrors on purpose," he accused, trailing his hand from her back down between her breasts and admiring the lace.
She did this with so many people and he knew it. But he didn't care. He should stop her from pulling off his coat and his shirt but he didn't care. He needed her. Need her touch just as much as he needed to touch her.
He groaned, eagerly meeting her lips and pushing her back against closet door again, more and more aggressively kissing her lips and neck. Until finally he growled, urged on by her order not to hold back. He lifted her up by her easily against the door, encouraging to wrap her legs around him so he could carry her to the bedroom, throw her onto the mattress and rip off her jeans as he tasted her once again.

Halah had been taught at a young age that feelings and attachments made one weak. Her mother had intentionally bought the girl pet bunny to demonstrate this. Hal’s mother insisted the girl kill the pet bunny after insisting she learn how to care for it and establish an attachment to it. Further explaining to her that she needed to learn how to detach herself and her feelings from things and people… even from her. Which apparently Hal still hadn’t fully learned to accept. Even now, as an adult who used her siren song as a way to manipulate anyone and get her way, she still found herself getting attached. Not necessarily in her current situation. No, Ferris was hot as hell, but he was just convenient fun. No, the play thing she actually found herself ‘caring’ about (if that was even the right word, it could be argued it wasn’t quite the right fit) was actually the young man she met at the galleria… West.
Knowing he was as innocent as he was, gave her pause. It truly shouldn’t, but it did. She didn’t want to take that for herself… even she had been given the opportunity to choose her first. And okay, maybe it wasn’t so much ‘care’, because she fully intended to have him enjoy playing with someone else. and that’s why ‘caring’ wasn’t quite the right word. And think about those things only made her more determined to enjoy using Ferris and his body to satisfy her currently neglected need.
Hal cracked a wicked smile, nodding as she enjoyed to way he trailed his hand along her body. “I did… no matter where I change, I can be seen either directly or by a mirror.” She admitted with a grin that rivaled that of the cat who swallowed the canary.
His kisses grew more aggressive and Hal needed it. The way her lifted her and she wrapped her legs around him made her unable to help but laugh a little with a rush of excitement. Oh, Ferris was going to be lots of fun.
Hal’s dark eyes took him in as he threw her to the bed and practically ripped her jeans from her. She wore nothing but the green lace lingerie bodysuit as he met her lips again for another kiss. She pulled his body against hers, her hands moving to his pants to unfasten and remove them. “Admit it, you peeked.”
