03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
Depending on what rung you clung to on the popularity ladder, gym class was either a kid’s welcome reprieve or your worst nightmare. Or at least, that’s what Bethany had decided. Unfortunately, Bethany was about as close to the ground floor of social status as you could get. So, as the theory would suggest, for Bethy gym class was a waking hell.
And what’s worse was that it was volleyball week.
Volleyball necessitated Bethany’s least favorite element of sports: a need for hand eye coordination.
Bethany didn’t have any.
So, taking a deep breath, Bethany bundled up her street clothes under her arm and emerged from the stall in her gym uniform. Most opted to change as a haggling collective, Bethany chose to dress alone. The shirt was baggy enough to not grip her form but the shorts were a little tighter than she would have liked. Bethany barely cracked five foot and was built just like her mother and her grandmother before her. Full-figured, is what her mother would say. Shaped like a woman was what her grandmother called it.
Bethany’s peers were less complimentary.
Adjusting her shorts with a scowl, Bethany exited to the main room to see a blonde, walking and talking self-esteem hand grenade.

Volleyball was right up Alexis' alley. Being a cheerleader wasn't her only athletic capabilities and volleyball was easily one of her favorites. Her blonde hair was pulled up in a high pony and her gym uniform looked as if it had been tailored to hug her in all the right ways. It actually had been but that wasn't the point. With long legs and enough self-esteem to light up a room, she was ready for what the day would bring.
She was chatting with a group of her friends when Bethany exited the locker room and came out looking...less put together than Alexis at the very least. Alexis didn't have a lot of people that she disliked, but Bethany was easily one of them. And it had little to do with Bethany as a person and more about the fact that the girl was Ellis D.'s best friend and though Alexis wouldn't admit it out loud, she was jealous as hell.
Cupping her hand to the side of her mouth, she leaned into her group of friends to comment on how frumpy Bethany looked in her gym outfit. Her friends, of course, all glanced Bethany's way before grinning and giggling and joining in on the whispered gossip circle.

The dislike? It was mutual.
Heat rose to Bethany’s cheeks as the gaggle's laughter tinkled toward her, reverberating off the walls of the locker room. Bethany’s faulty fight-or-flight instinct kicked in. Flight, in this case, would have been the wisest option. Certainly the safest. But Bethany’s fight instinct shoved flight out of the way.
“You got a problem?” Bethany's eyes scanned the group, falling last on Alexis.

As Bethany approached them the other girls shifted back slightly but though they said nothing they still giggled girlishly to each other, their eyes looking Bethany up and down. Alexis grinned at the girl without a trace of shame or discomfort. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she replied. "Why don't you just scurry along and find someone else to bother." She crossed her arms over her chest, cocking her hip, and looking down at Bethany haughtily.

Bethany wanted to smash her face in. That picture-perfect face with her sculpted brows, perfect nose, and full lips that she was sure had kissed Ellis D. more times than Bethany could count. That lovely image had Bethany pinching her brow together in irritation and her cheeks burning hot.
Dumb bitch. Two could play at this game.
“Careful out there, Vanderson,” Bethany said breezily as she tried to push past Alexis to her locker to stash her street clothes, “Someone might miss their mark and lob a ball into that cake-face mug of yours. Be a shame for you to have to pay for that nose twice.”

Alexis' friends gasped for her sake and as Bethany moved past her and they were no longer facing each other she softly moved her hand to touch her nose feeling suddenly self-conscious of how it looked. She was met with the reassuring words of her friends and she dropped her hand and forced a smile before looking back at Bethany. "And if anyone even suspects it was intentional, I'll make sure you're held back for a whole other year in this hell hole." It was nice to have friends in high places.
She tossed her high pony tail haughtily as they exited the locker room and moved towards the gym. Game. Fucking. On.

Bethany weighed the pros and cons of spitting Alexis’s face, but before she could come to a decision the pretty girl and her gaggle had left the locker room. Bethany huffed with a sigh, shooting a vicious glare at Maisie Morris who had been watching the whole display.
“The fuck do you want?” Bethany grumbled, taking care of the last of her things before shuffling after the rest into the gym.
Their gym class was a little bit of a mixed bag. There was a clear upper crust of athletes and hotties that fate had conspired to cluster in this particular period. There was a smattering of kids from disparate cliques, but like Noah’s ark, it seemed they’d come two by two—except for Bethany. Bethany was the loner that was about to get left off the boat.
If only she were so lucky.
“Alright, you know the drill. I need two team captains.” The teacher said, moving the volleyball from one hand to the other. The unfortunate thing about gym teachers, in Bethany’s experience, is that they were never the kids in high school who got picked last, so couldn’t empathize with those who did.

Alexis entered the gym full of righteous indignation. Bethany was clearly the one in the wrong here. It was her who had captured Ellis D.'s attention so completely too now that Alexis was out of the picture. The break up had been forced upon her by her parents, not that her friends even knew that. They hadn't exactly been the most supportive about their relationship either. Was it so hard to believe that Alexis still has feelings for him.
Luckily, her attention was quickly brought back to the present rather than dwelling on her thoughts and before she even had a chance to raise her hand to volunteer, her friends were already pushing her forward. Alexis might not be captain of the cheerleading squad but she had the potential. "I'll volunteer as captain," she said to the teacher with a beaming grin.
As they waited for either another volunteer or for the teacher to pick someone Alexis let her eyes land on Bethany, silently daring her to captain the other team just so Alexis could crush her.

Bethany rolled her eyes. Of course, Alexis volunteered. The teacher, seeming to expect this, smiled back and nodded before turning to scan the other students.
“Any other—”
“Me, coach.” Trent Hurley, a boy who was good-looking and knew it, jogged up next to Alexis. Bethany even thought she saw him shoot a wink in her direction. She missed Alexis’s challenging stare. Bethany was staring at the floor of the gym, trying to make herself disappear.

It was with a small bit of disappointment that Trent volunteered before Bethany could get the chance but by the way that Bethany quickly staring at the floor, Alexis was sure it never would have happened anyway. Coward. Seriously, what did Ellis D. see in this girl? Still, Trent was a hottie and when he winked at her she tossed him back a flirty smile and twisted a strand of her pony tail in her fingers.
Alexis got to choose first and naturally selected one of her girl friends. With a mix of her besties and some of the better players in the room, she intentionally avoided choosing Bethany in hopes she might be chosen very very last.

One by one, Bethany's peers peeled off the line as they were selected. Even though it seemed entirely inevitable, Bethany still felt the cold, sinking dread settling in her gut. Eventually, it came down to two: her, and Craig Douglas -- a gangly, acne-speckled boy with glasses like the bottom of a coke bottle. It was Alexis's choice. Bethany glared at her with crossed arms. Though she was the lesser of two losers, she thought clearly she was less of a liability. She dared Alexis to pick Craig instead. To pour salt in the wound.

The longer it took Bethany to be chosen, the more elated that Alexis got, her heart racing in the thrill of it. If Bethany had never been friends with Ellis D then Alexis wouldn’t feel so strongly against her but it was too late and she couldn’t help how she felt now.
Two last choices. No, Alexis didn’t want Craig on her team. However, she cared far less about winning a stupid gym class game than in making Bethany feel just a smidge more awful for having someone like Craig chosen before her. She saw the dare in Bethany’s gaze and with the smile of a prideful and spoiled girl, Alexis turned up her nose and cheerfully called out Craig’s name.
