03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
Of all the people she’d expected to answer her, the one who did wasn’t at all expected. In fact, she was fairly certain she’d taken a few pictures of the woman not moments before. Hadley adjusted her camera, fixing the tall woman with a curious stare under a still raised eyebrow. The raised eyebrow shifted, instead replaced by a small smirk as she considered the words that fell from her mouth. It was a line, she was about ninety-nine percent sure it was. Still, she took her hand, offering it a firm shake as she let her large camera hang from around her neck. “Something or someone, sounded a bit more like someone? Names Hadley.” It was posed as a question, though it was more a confirmation of fact.
Dropping Nadine’s hand, she pushed a few blonde curls out of her face before she raised her camera again, taking a few pictures before she turned her attention back to the tall blonde. “Could say the same for you, bit more obvious why you’re familiar, I’d say,” she let her camera leave her hands again, dangling against her as she shoved her hands in the pockets of her jacket. “Been here since I was ten, probably seen me around. Also work at the Tribune,” she nodded down at her camera. If there was an event, she was there, like it or not.

Nadine was very aware of the fact that she wasn’t considered a Sweetwater ‘townie’. The Sanders family - like the other founding families - had long been a pillar of the community. When he was on town council, her father made a point of showing his face everywhere, of knowing everyone’s name, and making himself accessible to the people of Sweetwater. Nadine, though born and raised here, was very much an outsider. She had left Sweetwater without looking back, rarely returning even for the holidays. Now she had swooped back in and snatched the title of Councilwoman - something she knew rubbed people the wrong way. Not that this young woman was one of them, of course. That remained to be seen.
She smiled as Hadley busily snapped a few more pictures. Good handshake - obviously someone dedicated to her craft. Even though she was averse to reporters as a general rule (too much snooping around her liking), Hadley seemed like she wasn’t someone who was out to play games. She could respect that.
“Ah, the woman behind the camera.” Nadine smiled, nodding as if remembering her. She paused, before thinking out loud,“I have to admit I envy you. I loathe these kinds of events - having to schmooze, to stroke egos. It must be nice to…” Nadine searched for the right words, “have something to hide behind.” Nadine hoped Hadley understood what she meant. She didn’t mean hiding as an act of cowardice. Having a cover gave you perspective, the ability to move into spaces where others would be noticed. “Charity event though this may be, some of these people don’t have an ounce of charity in their entire bodies. Trust me.” Nadine glanced down again at some of the business, mentally marking the ones who had so eagerly sold themselves out for a bit of extra cash. She smiled, looking back up at Hadley. “All of this is off the record, of course.” Nadine added quickly, but sternly.
Though she offered a nod, she found herself a bit surprised that someone envied her. Then again, she had the freedom to be a wild child, to take pictures and wander around without the same responsibilities that came with having an important position in the town. No one cared when she stayed out far too late, who she spent time with, or where she went. There was a very good reason she didn’t put herself in a position for people to care - if they did, only disappointment would follow when she still did what she wanted anyway. It could be called selfish, self-centered or whatever descriptive people wanted to put on it, Hadley just saw it as her being exactly who she was.
“Sounds like you need a glass of something strong to hide behind instead, then,” at the very least it would make her care a bit less. Though Hadley very much agreed it was nice to walk around and just take pictures. They were both obligated to be there in very different ways, but again, no one was paying attention to what she was doing. Until now. And yet she still didn’t have to stroke any egos, it wasn’t something she thought she’d be good at anyway. Something told her Nadine wasn’t talking to her to have her ego stroked, however. “Hopefully I didn’t interrupt your schmoozing, I’m sure it was a grand time.” Sarcasm, the words were dripping with it.
Hadley’s hands left her pockets, now soothing out her dress, Nadine’s words causing a large smile to break crossed her face. “Woman behind the camera, remember?” She raised a hand to tap her finger on her camera before she shrugged. “I’m no writer, I only provide the visuals, secrets safe here.” Not that it was much of a surprise, charity was a rare thing, a thing it seemed like most people did because there was something to be gained.
Or maybe that was just her bleak outlook on humanity.

@kali was a beautiful women, there was no doubt about that so when @julian sidled up to them like that Jack wasn't ignorant to the man's flirtations. After all, Jack was an expert the art of flirting even if his prey was often a bit younger than even Kali. Still, Jack felt a competitive rise in his chest and he smiled. A game was a foot and Jack didn't like to lose.
He smirked at her comment about the paddle, chuckling lightly as he was suddenly intensely curious about what exactly she meant. "Well," he said, gently placing his hand just above her elbow and lightly rotating her, if she let him, to better see the auctioneer's podium. "My tactic is pretty simple. When you find something you want you wait to see how eagerly people are going for it, once it seems like it's getting close to the end you suddenly add your bid just when they think they've won. Keep your expression neutral, like it doesn't matter at all to you if you win or lose. Then don't stop bidding."
He smiled down at her with a playful, almost daring expression. "If you want something, then you take it, and don't let anyone or anything stand in your way." He tossed a little smirk over to Julian as well, he clearly wasn't only talking about bidding.
Just the first item of the night went up for bit, an original painting from a local artist. Bidding started on it right away.
Flora had mixed feelings about attending tonight. It was her first time at this event though her parents attended every year. This year her parents had decided that it was about time she came as well. So she arrived with her parents, much to her dismay, but Jordan and Naomi Arquette left to mingle with their own friends as soon as they stepped inside.
Flora had been happy for an excuse to dress up and she had chosen a soft blue floral, knee-length dress for the evening. She felt pretty but also self conscious. Should she have gone with something floor length? She twisted her hands together before she took a paddle, glad to at least have something in her hand, and forced herself to walk further into the room. It seemed they had been just in time for the first bid and she watched from the sidelines as paddle began to go up to bit for the painting.

Nadine laughed, a well-manufactured but hollow sound. It's not that she didn't think Hadley was funny, it's that outward displays of emotion didn't come naturally. Her reaction was always mental rather than emotional, but when you're someone like Nadine you have to adapt in order order survive. “Good. I can’t stand reporters."
"Drink with me." Her request was somewhere between a question and a command. There was no mistaking that Hadley was a bewitching creature, even though she was likely too young for Nadine to ever be successful in making a play for her. But there was nothing better than being in the company of a beautiful woman. Nadine cocked her head towards the bar in a motion to follow. She knew Hadley was probably on duty, so there was a chance she'd deny her request for a drink. But the answer is always no if you don't ask.
Julian's eyes narrowed at Jack as he grinned devilishly. So this was how it was going to be, eh? He was always down for a competition - friendly or otherwise. The first item came up for auction.. it was a gorgeous painting - impressionistic, a gorgeous landscape of the view just outside of Sweetwater. Thinking of his wife, he was sure Charlotte would love it. His alpha male persona kicked in as he leaned in closer to Kali's ear, speaking softly but still loud enough that Jack could probably hear. "All talk. Let me show you how it's done."
As the bidding opened, Julian rose his paddle. "Three hundred dollars. He looked around the room to catch @charlotte's eye. If she met his gaze, he would wink at her - letting her know he hadn't forgotten about her.
Reporters didn't really bother Hadley, but then again, she didn't have them writing stories about her. She didn't even read the paper, she peeked at it to see which pictures she'd taken had made it in, if she liked how it looked she saved the article, but for the most part she used it as kindling in her fireplace. "Sure I would too, if they wrote about me," luckily, it wasn't something she'd probably ever have to worry about. It was a small town, but there were still more interesting things than local photographer dances on table in club.
There were only a few things she still needed to get pictures of, like those who actually got things at the auction, people receiving the things they'd paid for. Other than that, she felt like she had enough so far to give the Tribune plenty to pick from. She'd still figured that Nadine would be just about done talking to her. As far as Hadley could tell, she was a bit more on the classy side of things, where as Hadley was... well Hadley. She wore combat boots to a fancy auction. "Make a deal with me, I keep your secret, you don't tell I drank on the job, then?" She took her job seriously, but she was just about done, and hell if auctions weren't boring. She'd follow, but a deal seemed fair since she was already keeping her own lips zipped for the older woman.

Waylon had been submitting some prices on the smaller auction items, mostly a set of collectable spoons and some other odd things that most here wouldn't know had value. Well he didn't know that, but Waylon felt like most of these people flashed a wallet or purse to showoff 'we got more money'.
The Sheriff was a bit over that, he had won the spoons at the end of the auction. He collected his prize and joined the frock of fraptues guests. He knew a lot of these people, more than most thought they knew about each other but that was the job. He was always on the job even when he wasn't. It was a quick observation but Waylon stuck out among the frock, everyone was dressed to the nines while he wore his uniform from work today...His sister if she was here would probably drop dead...
