03.2023 | WELCOME BACK! Hello friends old and new! I'm so excited to welcome you all back to SITW! I've made some changes to the plot and added the ability to play supernatural charcaters! So come and check it out! I can't wait to jump back into this little town with all of you!
A strange history surrounds the town, it is a place where mysterious and supernatural things have been known to happen. The reputation of the town reguarly draws in visitors and newcomers alike. While some residents avidly believe in the supernatural, others are far more skeptical. What do you believe?
Jade was looking forward to prom. As a junior this was her first time getting to go to this particular school dance which was only for the upperclassman. It felt exciting to be considered an 'upperclassman', excuse me, upperclasswoman. She hadn't had any hesitation at all in going by herself. She didn't need a date to have fun at prom. She wore a short, pale gold dress that had a layer of tulle over top of it with gold stars. She very much had dressed for the theme of the dance tonight.
She didn't have a car she could drive, her parents needed their only vehicle, so she had been driven to the dance by her mom and dropped off in front of the school. She gave her mom a peck on the cheek before hoping out. As she was making her way inside she caught sight of @marius. She didn't know him well but she remembered when he had moved in a couple of years ago and knew him to be more on the 'socially awkward' side of things.
He seemed uncomfortable and Jade wasn't about to stand for that. She walked over to him with a friendly smile. "Hey Marius! You clean up nice," she praised him warmly, "I like your suit."
It took a minute for Marius to process that it was, in fact, him she was talking to. The young woman before him was like some sort of mythical creature. Her dress was stunning, and with her purple hair she looked like some sort of dreamlike muse. She was definitely familiar, but given the situation his brain was looking a little slower than it should. He searched for it. It was in there somewhere. @jade , yes that was it. Comforted, he smiled, awkwardly casting his eyes down and blushing.
“Yeah, I - I, thanks. You too. Well, you normally look nice this is just, well...sparklier nice.” He finished lamely. Still, something about her put him at ease. Jade and Marius had shared an English class last semester, and he remembered her commenting with justified ire that all of the books they were reading were authored by white men. Not many people notice things like that - let alone think they are worth pointing out. That’s the kind of stuff Marius admired, and always remembered.
He took a deep breath and gripped for whatever courage he could muster. “I was just about to go in.” But he quickly backtracked, feeling disingenuous. Marius relaxed his shoulders and looked at her earnestly. “What I actually mean is I was about to bail. I’m not good at these kinds of things, but I’m trying to get better. If you’re headed in -” He held out his arm in an old fashioned gesture. “It’d be an honor to accompany you.” Marius knew that she was perfectly capable of going by herself. He hoped she would understand it was for his benefit, not for hers.

Oh Alexis certainly planned on asking Amanda and she cast her friend a betrayed look of irritation. She rolled her eyes and glanced away, crossing her arms over her chest when Price pulled back his jacket to show them the flask. Many of her friends had the opposite reaction. As she turned her eyes fell on Ida and Ellis D. again only to find Ida was staring at her. Alexis offered her a sarcastic smile, her blood boiling at the way she moved closer to her ex.
Luckily, she had at least one good friend and Wei tugged at her elbow to pull her onto the dance floor. She couldn't express exactly how grateful she was for this gesture and she left everyone behind to go with Wei out onto the dance floor. She linked her arm into her friend's and whispered in her ear, "Thank you."
Alexis wasted no time, she wasn't about to let anyone else ruin her special night and as soon as they were on the dance floor she started to dance.
Milo had expected Journey to protest when he picked her up, instead she played along with him and he decided then and there that there was more to her than just the shy girl that she portrayed. He just needed to get her out of her shell. Challenge accepted.
They passed by Ms. Kalena Irwin on their way out the door and Milo glanced at her as they made their way out. She was one of their hottest teachers for sure. He smiled down at Journey and held out his arm for her with an over the top polite expression on his face as he did so. "Shall we, my Lady?" he asked, waiting to see if she'd take his arm as they stepped into the gym.
He had to admit that whoever decorated it had done a nice job. You could still tell it was a school gym but it really wasn't a bad atmosphere to hang out in for the evening.
As they entered he spotted Ellis D. and Ida. "Hey, let's say hi real quick," he said to Journey. He wasn't sure how well she knew either of them but it was a small town, he figured they at least knew names. He was at least polite enough to wait for Journey to agree before he dragged her over to them.

Unlike @ida, Ellis D. Intentionally didn’t look towards Alexis Vanderson as they passed her. His gaze was set for the drink table and he wouldn’t dare look. Looking made everything harder. Alexis was beautiful and he knew her well; he had seen her flaws and chosen to love her anyway. Even now, only part of him was invested in this ploy. The other part wanted to leave, to get away from it all.
Maybe they should have ditched prom for the lake after all.
“Are you satisfied?” Ellis D. asked as they reached the drinks, spooning a plastic cup of punch for Ida. “Senior prom.” He said his last two words as if speaking of a saint. He’d fill a cup for himself next.

Price hadn’t noticed Wei at first. That was a mistake. The moment she laid hands on his sister she had his full attention, and he was happy to pay it. Hungry blue eyes followed the two as they moved to the dance floor.
“Price.” Amanda grabbed his arm, attempting to steal back his attention. Attempt failed.
“Go...get a drink or something.” Price told her, removing his hand and walking away as easily as one might exit a port-a-potty. He had something Wei better to chase.
“Hey, Alexis.” He called as he moved towards them. They were dancing, alone and awkward, but he’d help them out. He started moving his body to the music, a casual but appropriate movement for the song.
“Don’t be mad, okay?” He seemed pretty earnest. For all she knew, he was. “I got invited and I’m just trying to have a good time.” He glanced towards @wei and raised his brows in greeting. “Hey, what’s up?” Before she could reply he’d focus back on his sister.
“Listen, Lexi, if you want me to leave I’ll leave. Jut say the word.” He’d do it, too. Probably. “But...if there’s even an ounce of you that thinks you’ll have a good time with your big bro here, then,” he extended his hand, “dance with me?”
She hesitated a few seconds when Milo Laurent extended his arm to her, unsure of what to do until a small part of her smacked her upside her curled hair and told her to take his arm. He was being polite, or at least attempting to play that role in this moment. Her hand gently rested in the crook of his arm as they moved inside.
At the mention of saying hello, she nodded, not really know who exactly they were going to say hello to. She didn’t exactly have intimate knowledge on who was friends with who, but as those blue eyes glanced up she could guess who it was. Especially as Milo lead the way over to Ellis D. Youngblood and @ida. Ellis D and her knew each other because of school assignments and being partnered together. The normally curly haired Ida was less known to Journey, but she gave a small shy smile as they approached them.
Jade didn't give two licks of a rat's ass that Marius' suit was slightly less formal than some of the others. She didn't judge people on things as material as that and found those who did to be selfish, entitled pricks. She had meant what she said, she thought he looked very nice tonight.
She smiled, enough to expose her teeth, and giggled as he complimented her dress, 'sparklier nice', she liked that. "Thanks, Marius," she said, rotating her hips back and forth a few times, the skirt of her dress shifting in the opposite direction as she did so.
The fact that he was telling her the truth that he'd been about to leave softened her heart a great deal towards him, not that it was hard in the first place, but it was a brave act to speak your truth, especially if you felt any amount of shame about it and he instantly jumped up several points on her mental score sheet for his honesty.
Without a split second of hesitation she looped her hand into his offered arm. "I'd be delighted for your company," she said with a smile and a wink before she gave his arm a little tug and began to walk with him into the school.
"I am. Completely and utterly satisfied." Ida lifted her glass to senior prom then downed it. If she was bring honest, she had a few shots of pre-prom tequila to take care of her nerves, and she was starting to feel it. Being around Ellis D. made her feel a little bit weak in the knees to begin with. Between the booze and the music, she was definitely starting to feel herself - powerful and attractive for the first time really ever. It was a strange, dreamlike place be.
She saw Milo and broke into a big smile. He waved, and briefly they exchanged pleasantries. But in a flash, he was gone. He recognized the girl on his arm - Journey. Beautiful and sweet with an open, welcoming face. Ida wished he could tell her how lucky she was to be on Milo's arm, but they were gone too quickly. OK, fine. She'd have to talk to him later. Apparently.
But there was a mission at hand. Ida, queen of the trailer trash heap, spit on and despised, was here to claim her prince. She stepped into Ellis D., craning her neck towards his ear.
"If you wanted to ask me to dance, I wouldn't be mad about it. You haven't seen these hips move yet. I mean..." On the brink of acknowledging the unacknowledgable, she stopped. Ida could feel herself almost taking it too far. But God, how she wanted him. How long had she waited, been the good friend, stepped aside? Maybe for once in her life it was time to go for what what wanted. Ida tilted her head and grinned, tugging Ellis D. gently towards the dancefloor. Ida was feeling cocky, and was going to make this a night to remeber.

Ellis D. smiled and joined in on the pleasantries with Milo Laurent and @journey. He was in the middle of a project with Journey. Seeing her felt almost like seeing a friend. Almost. He made sure to tell her she looked good, because she did and that was the kind of thing girls wanted to hear on this night.
His attention wasn’t pulled away from Alexis for long, however. One sidelong glance made Ellis D. privy to her engagement with Price. He didn’t like her older brother. He was too fake. He lied too much. The fact that Alexis was concerned about him—and more in a worried for herself way—had set him as an enemy to Ellis D. from day one. The fact that Price openly mocked and insulted Ellis D. for his socioeconomic status and dark skin ranked a hard second.
Another attention-pulling exchange, Ellis D.’s eyes returned to Ida, his ravishing date, though his mind lingered where they had formerly been. So much so that when her words took a turn towards the unspeakable he wasn’t even with the conversation enough to conclude the unspoken. He just smiled and let her tug him.
“Sure, let’s do it.” He said it reluctantly, though the smile conveyed his pleasure at at least having to dance in public with her. He wouldn’t be whipping out any grand moves. Ellis D. wasn’t that showy. He didn’t want people looking at him. He liked to watch the showstoppers with the rest of the crowd.
Ida grinned, feeling stupidly giddy. Truth was, she wasn’t much of a dancer - at least not in public. She was quite the star when she had the reggaetón turned all the way up in the trailer - swinging her body all over the place. This music wasn’t quite to her taste, but even though she didn’t recognize it, the current song made her smile. She pulled Ellis D. onto the dancefloor, but not into the center of the action. They were tucked away at the side, the light casting shadows on his face, making his already thoughtful eyes even more mysterious.
Strangely nervous, she put her hands up so they rested gently on his shoulders. Ida had been so aware of everyone’s eyes all night. But standing here she felt it all fade away. She started to move, relaxing into his arms. After a moment she looked up, and said earnestly. “I’m glad we’re here.” Instantly she felt vulnerable, like she had said too much, and she glanced away, cheeks flushed. Ida played it off with a laugh, trying to redirect. “But don’t quote me on that later. I probably won’t own up to it.”
Relief washed over him as Jade took his arm, saying a little silent prayer of gratitude. Marius was always happy to be proved wrong, and tonight was no exception. His mother was right - this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
When they stepped inside, he reactively pulled his arm, and Jade with it, a little bit closer. The dance floor was starting to fill up, and there was noise and color and chaos everywhere you looked. Seeing people dancing and mingling around reinforced for him how truly out of his element he was. But tonight was about taking risks. If he was going to have a life here, he needed to start making connections.
Marius took a deep breath and looked down at Jade, smiling nervously. “You want to get a drink? Maybe, uh, talk for a minute?” He honestly wanted to get to know her better. Marius knew that perhaps prom wasn’t the ideal place for a meet and greet, but he felt like it was at least a place to start.
Milo and Journey said a quick hello to @ida and Ellis D. Youngblood. Milo held back a playfully snarky comment to Ida about how she didn’t even look like herself and instead told them both to ‘have fun kids’ and to enjoy their final prom before he whisked Journey away.
“It’s weird to see them together like that,” he whispered to Journey, leaning closer to her to both be heard by her over the sound of the music and also to not be overheard by others. They had all been friends for years and now there was something going on between Ellis D. and Ida and he wasn’t the biggest fan of this development.
He was happy to be here with Journey and not have to think about being their third wheel. He took Journey’s hand and moved to spin her in a circle as he grinned down at her before leading her fully onto the dance floor.

Alexis just wanted to enjoy her senior prom with her friends. She didn’t think that was such a hard ask, but apparently it was. She had only just started dancing when Price followed her and Wei onto the dance floor.
She stopped her movement when Price stopped in front of her and glanced over at Wei when he paused to address her. He sounded genuine enough but there was something in him that she didn’t like. It was never something she could fully put her finger on but while her instinct would have been to tell him to leave, she didn’t. Not because she didn’t want him to go away, she did, but because she was afraid of the repercussions.
She hesitated a moment, looking down at his open hand and then back up at him. She sighed in defeat. “Fine, you can stay,” she said, “but I’m sure you can fine much more exciting dance partners.”
She didn’t accept his hand, she just offered him a little smile and walked away past him. From behind his back she offered Wei a warning glance. Price was trouble.
She decided to make her escape over to the beverage table when her thoughts of Ellis D. and Price were suddenly interrupted by a pretty face. She recognized Zane as someone who had graduated the year before but in the moment she couldn’t remember his name. What a shame to have forgotten someone who looked that attractive. It was probably because she’d been dating Ellis D. at the time and she had only really had eyes for him.
She stood at the table beside him, grabbing a cup of punch and looking at him for a moment out of the corner of her eye before she turned slightly towards him and spoke. “Hey, you graduated last year, right?” She asked him.
Journey had mainly stayed to the side during the exchange. She didn’t want to steal the moment (not that she would have anyway) from the trio. Though she did thank Ellis D when he told her she looked nice, it made her cheeks turn red but the low lighting hopefully hid most of it. A small breath of relief left her when Milo tugged her away, her shoulders sagging a little in relief. She had taken to Milo Laurent as her security blanket almost since she had arrived with him. Her bright eyes flashed to him. “Are they not normally together?” she asked, unsure because she wasn’t close with either of them.
She moved in the direction she was lead, her small smile growing as he grinned down to her. Her heart jumping into her throat as she realized he was taking her to the dance floor. Already nervous as one hand slipped to the skirting of her dress and lifted it, as if she was going to trip on it (she wasn’t). “I’m going to apologize now if I step on your feet,” she leaned towards him so he could hear her. Her eyes looking down at their feet already.
